The NIU KQi2 Pro ($199.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) is the best electric scooter under $200 for most adults: a 365 Wh battery that we estimate covers about 14 to 17 miles at full speed, 10-inch air-filled tubeless tires, an IP54 water rating and a 2-year warranty on the battery and motor, from a...

Prices are subject to change, and the buy links always fetch the live price. Claimed range is the maker’s figure; our estimate divides the battery by the energy a 175 to 180 lb rider uses at full speed in published range tests, so lighter riders and slower speeds go further. “Seller states it” means the Amazon listing or the maker’s own site claims UL 2272 and we could not verify it in the certifier’s directory. “Not stated” means neither the listing nor the maker gives a figure.

The Amazon best seller we would buy: #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (October 2026), with a UL 2272 claim, a 265 lb limit, 31 lb and 19 mph. We estimate about 10 to 13 miles. Every spec is the listing's, since we found no maker website, and its listed "Dual Suspension" is unconfirmed: nothing on the listing describes it.

Most motor for the money: 500 W rated and 20 mph, #9 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 20, 2026. IPX4, a UL 2272 claim naming TÜV Rheinland, 280.8 Wh (about 10 to 13 miles by our estimate) and a 264 lb limit. The warranty is only 180 days, and the same W3C is sold as the Oslich.

Best for heavier riders, with a 300 lb limit, the highest here. 19 mph, 31.4 lb and a 270 Wh battery by our arithmetic, about 10 to 12 miles by our estimate. A sibling listing gives the same scooter a 220 lb limit and the brakes are not described, so ask the seller before you rely on 300 lb.

Amazon's #1 listing (October 2026), and the 16 options on it are nine different scooters, so pick a Q1 option. The Q1 is 350 W, 19 mph, 26 lb by its listing, with a 187.2 Wh battery, about 7 to 9 miles by our estimate. No certification stated, and no water rating.

The lightest scooter here at 22 lb, with rear suspension, a rear disc brake and a 265 lb limit. Roinside lists the battery as 5.2 Ah with no voltage, so no range estimate is possible, and its IP65 and 25% climb claims are unusually high for the price. No certification stated.

TL;DR: 7 picks for electric scooters under $200

  1. NIU KQi2 Pro, $199.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best overall. 365 Wh (an estimated 14 to 17 miles), 10-inch tubeless air tires, IP54 and a 2-year warranty on battery and motor. 40.6 lb, 17.4 mph, and an outgoing model.
  2. MAXSHOT V1, $149.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best of Amazon's best sellers. #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (October 2026), a UL 2272 claim, 31 lb, 265 lb limit and an estimated 10 to 13 miles.
  3. Phantomgogo A2, $159.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best for 15 mph states. Ships limited to 15.5 mph per its listing (Phantomgogo says up to 15), has a rear disc brake and IP54, and its listing names SGS for UL 2272.
  4. WAWSCOTE W3C, $159.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Most motor for the money. 500 W rated, 20 mph, IPX4 and a UL 2272 claim naming TÜV Rheinland, with an estimated 10 to 13 miles. A 180-day warranty.
  5. SAIMNZE A11, $189.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best for heavier riders. A 300 lb limit, the highest here, at 31.4 lb and 19 mph, with an estimated 10 to 12 miles.
  6. VOLPAM Q1, $159.98 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Amazon's #1 listing (October 2026). 26 lb and 19 mph, but an estimated 7 to 9 miles and no certification stated. Pick a Q1 option.
  7. Roinside UP2P, $151.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). The lightest, at 22 lb, with rear suspension and a rear disc. No certification stated and no battery voltage published.

Our method in brief

Seven electric scooters under $200 on Amazon US at our last check, chosen on October 18 and 20, 2026: six from the top 10 of Amazon's Electric Scooters category, plus the NIU KQi2 Pro, the one brand-name model in this price band. Where a maker publishes a spec sheet we use it; for MAXSHOT, Roinside, SAIMNZE and WAWSCOTE we found no maker website, so every figure is the listing's and the entry says so. Range is our estimate (battery watt-hours divided by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, for a 175 to 180 lb rider at full speed), never a measurement. UL 2272 status is the claim as stated; two picks state none, and we say so. We searched CPSC recalls for every model. We have not ridden these scooters.

1. NIU KQi2 Pro: best electric scooter under $200

The NIU KQi2 Pro is the best electric scooter under $200 because NIU publishes the fullest maker spec sheet of any pick here, and that sheet beats the no-name listings on the parts that last. NIU's US store rates it at 300 W (600 W peak) on a 48 V, 365 Wh battery, and claims 24.9 miles without publishing the test conditions; we estimate about 14 to 17 miles at full speed, about double the VOLPAM Q1. It is the only pick on air-filled tires (10-inch tubeless in NIU's spec table, 9.5-inch in its product description), with a front drum and regenerative brake, IP54, a halo headlight and brake light, a 15% climb rating, an app with cruise control, and a 2-year warranty on the main body, battery and motor included. It tops out at 17.4 mph, under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit and New Jersey's 19 mph line, and above California's 15 mph limit.

Three cautions. NIU's US store lists it as sold out and tags it "OLD", so Amazon's stock may not last. Amazon sells the white and the gray as separate listings at different prices, and on October 18, 2026 the white one was the cheaper of the two, so check the color before you pay. And it weighs 40.6 lb with a 220 lb limit and no suspension. NIU states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and neither Amazon listing makes a UL claim. The white listing's bullets also give 15.4 mph against NIU's 17.4 mph; we use NIU's figure. We found no CPSC recall for NIU since 2023, and no CPSC recall found for the KQi2 Pro as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders under 220 lb who want the most range and the longest warranty for the money, and do not carry the scooter far. Skip if you need something light: four picks here weigh 31.4 lb or less. Read the KQi2 Pro spec sheet.

2. MAXSHOT V1: best of Amazon's best sellers

The MAXSHOT V1 is the Amazon best seller we would buy under $200: #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, with more battery than the #1 listing and a UL 2272 claim. We found no maker website to check it against (maxshot.com is parked, and a site that calls itself official runs Amazon affiliate links), so every figure is the listing's. MAXSHOT lists a 350 W motor without saying rated or peak, 19 mph with modes of 9, 12 and 19 mph, a 7.8 Ah battery at 37 V on this listing and 36 V on a sibling (about 281 to 289 Wh by our arithmetic), 21 miles "under specific conditions", 31 lb, a 265 lb limit, 8.5-inch honeycomb tires and an electronic brake plus a drum. We estimate about 10 to 13 miles at full speed.

The V1's product information says "Dual Suspension", as the family title does, but no bullet or image on the V1 listing describes a shock, so treat its suspension as unconfirmed. Five of its nine color choices are the V1; the others are the S78, V7, V1MAX and V1SPRO, so check the option name. No water rating is stated, and the warranty is 1 year. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and no lab is named. No CPSC recall found for the MAXSHOT V1 as of October 2026; the 2023 CPSC recall of Apollo Phantom V1 scooters is a different brand and product.

Who it suits: riders up to 265 lb with trips of up to about 5 miles each way. Skip if you want a maker you can contact outside Amazon. Read the MAXSHOT V1 review.

3. Phantomgogo A2: best for 15 mph states

The Phantomgogo A2 is the cheap scooter that suits California's 15 mph limit out of the box: its Amazon listing says it ships limited to 15.5 mph, and Phantomgogo's own page says up to 15 mph. Pressing the power button six times unlocks 18.6 mph, which is still under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit and New Jersey's 19 mph line. It was #7 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026. Phantomgogo lists a 395 W peak motor with no rated figure, an EABS front brake and a rear disc, 8.5-inch solid tires, a 225 lb limit and a 1-year warranty; the listing adds IP54.

The battery is this page's open question. Phantomgogo and the Amazon bullets say 36 V and 10.4 Ah, which is about 374 Wh and an estimated 14 to 17 miles; Amazon's product details say 7.8 Ah, which would be about 281 Wh and 10 to 13 miles. Phantomgogo claims 15 miles, modest for a 374 Wh pack, so we treat the battery size as unconfirmed. No weight is published. The listing states UL 2272 and names SGS as the lab; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and Phantomgogo's own page makes no UL claim. Phantomgogo's product page went up in October 2026. No CPSC recall found for the Phantomgogo A2 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: California riders, and anyone who wants a slow default for a first scooter. Skip if you weigh over 225 lb or need a published weight. Read the Phantomgogo A2 spec sheet.

4. WAWSCOTE W3C: the most motor for the money

The WAWSCOTE W3C has the most rated power of any pick here, 500 W, and it was #9 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 20, 2026, with 4.3 stars from 512 ratings. We found no WAWSCOTE website, so every figure is the listing's. It lists 20 mph, a 36 V, 7.8 Ah battery (280.8 Wh, about 10 to 13 miles by our estimate against 18 to 21 claimed), 8.5-inch honeycomb solid tires, an electronic front brake plus a rear drum, IPX4, a 264 lb limit, and an app with cruise control. The weight is 35.1 lb in the bullets and 31.5 lb in the product table.

Two things set it apart from the other no-name listings. Its UL 2272 line names the lab, TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. And the same W3C is sold as the Oslich electric scooter, so you can buy whichever is cheaper on the day. The warranty is only 180 days, and the listing family mixes the W3C with W3, N3 and 1,000 W models, so check that the option's details say W3C. At 20 mph it is right at New York's e-scooter line and over New Jersey's 19 mph line. No CPSC recall found for WAWSCOTE as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders up to 264 lb who want more pull for small hills and some cover for light rain. Skip if you want a warranty longer than six months. Read the WAWSCOTE W3C review.

5. SAIMNZE A11: best for heavier riders

The SAIMNZE A11 carries the most weight of any scooter under $200 here, a 300 lb limit, and it was #10 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026. Every figure is the listing's; we found no SAIMNZE website. The listing gives a 550 W peak motor with no rated figure, a 36 V, 7.5 Ah battery (270 Wh by our arithmetic), 19 mph with app modes of 6, 12 and 19 mph, 19 miles claimed, a 31.4 lb weight (one bullet says 30), 8.5-inch tires of unstated type, a headlight, a brake light, side lights and a 4-hour charge. We estimate about 10 to 12 miles at full speed for a 175 to 180 lb rider, and less for the heavier riders it is sold to: energy use rises about 3.4% for every extra 10 lb.

Two gaps to know. The bullets do not describe the brakes at all (Amazon's spec field says "Front Braking"), and a sibling listing, the A11T-PRO, gives the same weight and battery with a 220 lb limit, which makes the 300 lb figure the claim to ask the seller about. The warranty is 12 months on the frame, motor and controller and 6 months on the battery and charger. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and no lab is named. No CPSC recall found for the SAIMNZE A11 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders between 265 and 300 lb with short, flat trips. Skip if you want a seller with a track record: this is one listing and a sibling. Read the SAIMNZE A11 spec sheet.

6. VOLPAM Q1: Amazon's #1 listing, if you pick the right option

The VOLPAM Q1 is the scooter behind the #1 listing in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, and that listing's 16 color options are nine different scooters, so choosing the Q1 is the first step. On that date the Q1 options were "Orange-blackcm", "Gray Orange" and "Green-Blackcm"; the other 13 are the LP30 (four options), the S78 (three), the SPORT, 10SPORT, SPT6, SP01 and SP08, and a 250 W kids' scooter, the C003. Our buy button opens the Q1. The title's "350W/500W" and "21/28/40 Miles" describe the whole family, and the star rating is pooled across all nine.

The Q1 is 350 W (VOLPAM does not say rated or peak), 19 mph with modes of 8, 11 and 19 mph, 8.5-inch honeycomb tires, an electronic brake plus a rear drum, no suspension, a 264 lb limit and about 15 miles claimed. The only battery figure, 187.2 Wh, appears on a sibling Q1 listing; from it we estimate about 7 to 9 miles at full speed, the least of any pick. It weighs 26 lb in the listing images and 15 kg (33.1 lb) on volpam.com. Neither the listing nor VOLPAM's Q1 page states UL 2272: no certification stated. No CPSC recall found for the VOLPAM Q1 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders with about 3 miles each way who want a light scooter from a seller with a long product line. Skip if you live in New York City or California, both of which require UL 2272 testing for scooters sold there, or you charge indoors and want a claim on paper. Read the VOLPAM Q1 review.

7. Roinside UP2P: the lightest scooter here

The Roinside UP2P is the lightest pick at 22 lb (a sibling listing of the same model says 23), and it sat #4 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026. Every figure is the listing's; we found no Roinside website. It lists a 350 W motor without saying rated or peak, 19 mph, 16 miles claimed, a 265 lb limit (264 on the sibling), 8.5-inch solid tires, a front electronic brake with a rear disc, rear suspension and a 4 to 5-hour charge. It also claims IP65 and a 25% climb, both unusually high for this price, and neither is something we could check.

The battery is listed only as 5.2 Ah, with no voltage, so we cannot work out its watt-hours and give no range estimate. The nine color choices in its family are at least six different models (the UP2P, UP2G, UP8Pro, UP6, UP12 and one called "30"), so check the option name says UP2P. Neither the listing nor any maker page states UL 2272: no certification stated. No CPSC recall found for the Roinside UP2P as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders who carry the scooter more than they ride it. Skip if you live in New York City or California, or you want to know its battery size before you buy. Read the Roinside UP2P spec sheet.

How far can a cheap electric scooter go?

About 7 to 17 miles at full speed for the picks on this page, by our estimate, against advertised figures of 15 to 24.9 miles. We estimate range by dividing a battery's watt-hours by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, the middle half of 32 published full-speed range tests, adjusted to a 175 to 180 lb rider. That puts the NIU KQi2 Pro (365 Wh) at about 14 to 17 miles, the MAXSHOT V1 and WAWSCOTE W3C at about 10 to 13 each, the SAIMNZE A11 at about 10 to 12 and the VOLPAM Q1 (187.2 Wh) at about 7 to 9. In the published tests, scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range at full speed, because makers rate range for a 150 to 165 lb rider at about 9 to 10 mph on flat ground at 77°F. If a listing gives no battery size, as the Roinside UP2P's does not, there is nothing to divide, which is itself a warning sign. We have not measured any of these ourselves.

Are cheap electric scooters safe?

Some are better documented than others, and the paperwork is the part you can check before buying. UL 2272 is the fire and electrical safety standard for the whole scooter. NIU states it for the KQi2 Pro on its own store; the MAXSHOT V1, Phantomgogo A2 (naming SGS), WAWSCOTE W3C (naming TÜV Rheinland) and SAIMNZE A11 listings state it; the VOLPAM Q1 and Roinside UP2P state no certification. We could not verify any of these claims in a certifier's directory; you can search UL Product iQ for a brand or the file number on the label. UL 2272 does not test folding stems, forks or brakes, which is where most recent scooter recalls came from.

The rules are tightening. New York City has required UL 2272 certification for scooters sold there since September 16, 2023 (Local Law 39), California has required UL 2272 battery testing for motorized scooters sold there since January 1, 2026 (SB 1271), and the CPSC proposed a national rule in June 2026 (Federal Register). We found no CPSC recall for any scooter on this page (checked October 18, 2026, and October 20 for the WAWSCOTE). Wear a helmet: the CPSC estimates 79,300 emergency-room visits involving e-scooters in 2024, and only 18% of the injured riders it followed up were wearing one. Our electric scooter safety guide covers charging and checks.

What do you give up with an electric scooter under $200?

Range, comfort and paperwork, mostly. Five of the seven picks ride on 8.5-inch solid or honeycomb tires, which never go flat and pass every bump to your feet, and the SAIMNZE A11's listing does not state its tire type; only the NIU KQi2 Pro has air tires. Only the Roinside UP2P describes any suspension; the MAXSHOT V1's product information lists "Dual Suspension", but nothing on its listing describes it. Batteries run 187 to 374 Wh, so most cheap scooters suit trips of 3 to 7 miles each way. Rider limits run 220 to 300 lb. Warranties are 1 year or less except NIU's 2 years. And for four of the seven we found no maker website, so the listing is the only spec sheet. The step up is real: Segway's E3 Pro carries 368 Wh with suspension, tubeless tires and IPX5, and is covered in best electric scooters for adults.

How fast are cheap electric scooters, and is that legal?

Most top out at 19 or 20 mph, which is legal to own almost everywhere and too fast to ride in some places. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. California caps motorized scooters at 15 mph (Vehicle Code §22411) and requires a driver's license or instruction permit, a helmet under 18 and no sidewalk riding (§21235). New York defines an e-scooter as under 100 lb and no faster than 20 mph (VTL §114-e), which every pick meets. New Jersey's legal e-scooter is stand-up, under 19 mph and 750 W or less (NJ chart): the NIU KQi2 Pro (17.4 mph) and Phantomgogo A2 (15.5 mph as shipped, 18.6 unlocked) are under that line, and the 19 and 20 mph picks sit on or over that line rather than under it. Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads (report).

The no-name listings we skip, and why

Most of Amazon's electric scooter chart under $200 is listings from sellers with one product family, no website and specs that change from one color option to the next. We leave a listing out when there is nothing behind it to check: no maker site or manual, no battery size, no rider limit, or a single listing with no history. The reason is support. When a listing disappears, the seller's warranty address and the spare tires, chargers and brake parts usually go with it, and they do disappear: of the 14 best-selling scooter listings we recorded on October 4, 2026, 5 were gone by October 18. We are not calling any of them bad; we have no evidence either way about how they ride, and that is the problem with buying one.

Even two of our picks are close to that line, and their entries say so: the SAIMNZE A11 is one listing and a sibling, and the Roinside UP2P publishes no battery voltage. Before you buy any cheap scooter, check five things on the listing: a battery size in watt-hours, or volts and amp-hours you can multiply; a rated motor figure as well as the peak; a UL 2272 claim, ideally with the lab named; a rider limit and a brake description; and whether the title promises things (suspension, 28 or 40 miles, 500 W) that the bullets for the option you picked do not.

How we chose

We started from Amazon's Electric Scooters category on October 18, 2026 and kept scooters under $200 at our last check from its top 10 (VOLPAM #1, MAXSHOT #2, Roinside #4, Phantomgogo #7, SAIMNZE #10, and on October 20 WAWSCOTE #9), plus the NIU KQi2 Pro, a brand-name scooter in this price band with a full maker spec sheet. Every pick claims 20 mph or less, the most New York's e-scooter definition allows, and has a page on this site. Most sit in a listing family of several options; the SAIMNZE A11 and the KQi2 Pro's white listing are single listings. We ranked on the evidence we could check: battery size and our range estimate, tires and brakes, the rider limit, the warranty, and whether a maker publishes specs and a UL 2272 claim. Where a maker site exists we used it; where none does, the entry says the figures are the listing's. UL 2272 status is the claim as stated. We searched CPSC recalls for every model on October 18, 2026, and for the WAWSCOTE on October 20. We have not ridden these scooters, and we do not take free samples.

The NIU KQi2 Pro, in its white listing, which cost $199.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). NIU publishes the fullest spec sheet of any maker in this price band: 300 W rated (600 W peak), a 365 Wh battery that we estimate covers about 14 to 17 miles at full speed, 10-inch tubeless air tires, IP54, 17.4 mph and a 2-year warranty on the battery and motor. The catches are its 40.6 lb weight and that NIU's own US store lists it as sold out. If it is gone, the MAXSHOT V1 is our next pick.

What is the best cheap electric scooter on Amazon?

The MAXSHOT V1, of Amazon's own best sellers. It was #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, and against the #1 VOLPAM Q1 it carries more battery (about 281 to 289 Wh against 187.2 Wh, so about 10 to 13 miles against 7 to 9 by our estimate) and a UL 2272 claim, which the VOLPAM Q1 lacks. It weighs 31 lb, carries 265 lb and tops out at 19 mph. Every spec comes from the listing, because we found no MAXSHOT website, and nothing on the V1's own listing describes suspension.

How far does a cheap electric scooter go on one charge?

About 7 to 17 miles at full speed for the scooters in this guide, by our estimate, which is well short of the 15 to 24.9 miles on the listings. We divide battery watt-hours by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile for a 175 to 180 lb rider. The NIU KQi2 Pro's 365 Wh gives about 14 to 17 miles; the VOLPAM Q1's 187.2 Wh about 7 to 9. Makers rate range for a 150 to 165 lb rider at about 9 to 10 mph, so riding slower and lighter gets you closer to their figure.

Which VOLPAM scooter option is the Q1?

On October 18, 2026, the VOLPAM Q1 options on Amazon's #1 Electric Scooters listing were "Orange-blackcm", "Gray Orange" and "Green-Blackcm". The other 13 options on the same listing are eight different scooters: the LP30, S78, SPORT, 10SPORT, SPT6, SP01, SP08 and a 250 W kids' model, the C003. The Q1 is 350 W and 19 mph on 8.5-inch honeycomb tires, with a 187.2 Wh battery that we estimate covers about 7 to 9 miles. The title's 500 W and 21 to 40 miles describe other models in the family. No certification stated.

Are cheap electric scooters safe?

The safer ones state UL 2272 and name the lab, and you should treat any claim as unverified until you check it. Of our picks under $200, NIU states UL 2272 for the KQi2 Pro, the Phantomgogo A2 listing names SGS, and the MAXSHOT V1 and SAIMNZE A11 listings claim it without a lab; the VOLPAM Q1 and Roinside UP2P state no certification. We could not verify any claim in a certifier's directory, and we found no CPSC recall for any of them as of October 2026. New York City and California require UL 2272 testing for scooters sold there.

What is the best cheap electric scooter for heavy adults?

The SAIMNZE A11, which lists a 300 lb limit, the highest under $200 that we found. Treat that figure with care: a sibling listing of the same scooter, with the same weight and battery, says 220 lb, and the listing does not describe the brakes. The MAXSHOT V1 and Roinside UP2P list 265 lb and the VOLPAM Q1 264 lb. Heavier riders also get less range: energy use rises about 3.4% for every extra 10 lb, so a 250 lb rider should plan on less than our 10 to 12-mile estimate for the SAIMNZE.

Which cheap electric scooter suits California?

The Phantomgogo A2, whose listing says it ships limited to 15.5 mph, closest to California's 15 mph limit for motorized scooters. California also requires a driver's license or instruction permit, a helmet under 18 and no sidewalk riding, and since January 1, 2026 it has required UL 2272 battery testing for scooters sold there; the A2's listing names SGS for UL 2272, which we could not verify. The NIU KQi2 Pro tops out at 17.4 mph. The VOLPAM Q1 and Roinside UP2P state no certification, so skip them in California.

Is the NIU KQi2 Pro discontinued?

NIU's own US store lists the KQi2 Pro as sold out in both colors and tags it "OLD", while Amazon still sold it on October 18, 2026, as separate white and gray listings. The white one was the cheaper of the two that day. NIU's warranty covers the main body, battery and motor included, for 2 years, and the scooter is a known design: 365 Wh, 17.4 mph, 10-inch tubeless tires, IP54 and a 220 lb limit. If Amazon's stock runs out, our next pick under $200 is the MAXSHOT V1.
