Prices are subject to change, and the buy links always fetch the live price. Claimed range is the maker’s figure; our estimate divides the battery by the energy a 175 to 180 lb rider uses at full speed in published range tests, so lighter riders and slower speeds go further. “Seller states it” means the Amazon listing or the maker’s own site claims UL 2272 and we could not verify it in the certifier’s directory. “Not stated” means neither the listing nor the maker gives a figure.

Our method in brief

Five seated electric scooters sold on Amazon US, chosen on October 19, 2026 from Amazon's Electric Scooters category (Gotrax's A5 and FLEX ULTRA family #33, Qlaway #42, Joyhis #44, Gyroor #68). Each has a seat you can use while riding, a top speed of 20 mph or less as the maker or listing states it, and a page on this site. We ranked them on ride comfort (tire size and type, suspension), range, rider limit, brakes and how much of the spec sheet can be checked. Range is our estimate: battery watt-hours divided by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, for a 175 to 180 lb rider at full speed. For four of the five, every figure is the Amazon listing's, because the maker has no website or does not list the model; Gyroor publishes its own page. UL 2272 status is the claim as stated. We searched CPSC recalls for every model. We have not ridden these scooters.

Two kinds of seated scooter

Before the picks, know which kind you want, because the seat changes the scooter around it.

  • Sit-down scooters built around the seat (the Gotrax A5 and FLEX ULTRA and the Gyroor C1): a low step-through frame, a padded saddle, 12 to 14-inch air-filled tires and a rear basket. They ride like a small moped and weigh 50 to 60 lb, so you park them rather than carry them.
  • Kick scooters with a seat added (the Qlaway K078L and Joyhis JS01): an ordinary folding scooter with 8.5-inch solid tires and a seat on a post or box at the back of the deck. They weigh about 30 lb and still fold into a car, but with solid tires and no suspension the seat is the only cushioning.

Every pick here lets you stand on the deck as well as sit, and on a bumpy stretch standing with your knees bent absorbs more than any seat.

1. Gotrax A5: best electric scooter with a seat

The Gotrax A5 is the best seated scooter for most adults because it puts the parts that make sitting comfortable on one frame: 12-inch air-filled tires, rear dual shocks, a padded seat, a fold-down footrest and wide pedals, plus a rear basket rated for 40 lb or more and an 11 lb handlebar hook. Braking is a drum at each wheel, and its 15.5 mph top speed is half a mile an hour over California's 15 mph limit and well under New York's 20 mph line. Gotrax backs it with a 365-day parts warranty and customer support. The listing claims 15.5 miles but gives no battery size, so we cannot estimate it; on a 15.5-mile claim, the median scooter in published full-speed tests would cover about 9.

Two cautions. The A5 is sold on Amazon, not on gotrax.com, which lists only A5 spare parts, and it shares one Amazon family, one #33 placement and one pool of 1,380 ratings with the A7 and FLEX ULTRA. And the listing gives three motor figures (400 W rated, 500 W and 550 W peak). The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. No CPSC recall found for the Gotrax A5 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders under 220 lb who want to sit for short trips and errands and can park at ground level. Skip if you weigh over 220 lb or carry your scooter upstairs. Read the Gotrax A5 review.

2. Gotrax FLEX ULTRA: best for longer rides and heavier riders

The FLEX ULTRA is the seated scooter to buy when the ride is longer or the rider is heavier. Its 48 V, 9.6 Ah battery (460.8 Wh) is the biggest here, and we estimate about 17 to 21 miles at full speed against a 25-mile claim. It has 14-inch pneumatic tires, suspension at both ends, a 500 W rear motor, a 20 mph top speed, a height-adjustable saddle, a 39.6 lb basket and a 264 lb rider limit. The cost is 60.4 lb, the heaviest pick, and drum brakes at 20 mph.

Like the A5 it is sold by Gotrax on Amazon but not on gotrax.com, so every figure is the listing's, and it shares the A5's ratings. At 20 mph it is right at New York's e-scooter line and above California's 15 mph limit. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. No CPSC recall found for the FLEX ULTRA as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders up to 264 lb with 8 or more miles each way. Skip if you need to lift it. Read the FLEX ULTRA spec sheet.

3. Qlaway K078L: best cheap electric scooter with a seat

The Qlaway K078L is the seated scooter to buy on a budget, and the one you can still lift: 28 lb by the listing we link, 32 to 33.5 lb by Qlaway's other listings. Its seat sits on a detachable 11-liter storage box, so it doubles as a trunk for a lock or groceries. It has a 350 W motor (700 W peak), 19 mph, cruise control, an electronic brake plus a rear drum and a 265 lb limit. Its 288.6 Wh battery (37 V, 7.8 Ah) is larger than the Gyroor C1's (270 Wh) or the Joyhis JS01's (187.2 Wh), and we estimate about 11 to 13 miles at full speed against a 22-mile claim.

It rides on 8.5-inch honeycomb tires with no suspension, so rough pavement comes straight through. Qlaway has no website, and its two Amazon listing families disagree on weight and warranty (6 months or 1 year). The listing says it was "UL 2272 tested"; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. No CPSC recall found for the Qlaway K078L as of October 2026.

Who it suits: short errands on smooth streets, and riders who need to fold the scooter into a car. Skip if your streets are rough. Read the Qlaway K078L review.

4. Gyroor C1: best for 15 mph states at a mid price

The Gyroor C1 is a sit-down scooter with 12-inch air-filled tires, a padded seat that Gyroor says fits riders from 4 ft 9 in to 6 ft, a rear basket and a 450 W motor, and it comes with a lock and a phone holder. Its 36 V, 7.5 Ah battery (270 Wh) gives about 10 to 12 miles by our estimate. Gyroor's own page shows speed modes of 9.3, 12.4 and 15.5 mph, so the 12.4 mph mode keeps it inside California's limit; the Amazon listing says 19 mph, so check the display. Gyroor's infographic shows a front drum and a rear disc brake; Amazon's table says rear braking only.

It had only 48 Amazon ratings on October 19, 2026, and neither Gyroor nor Amazon gives its weight. Gyroor's battery warranty is 6 months inside a 1-year warranty. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. Gyroor's only CPSC recall was its C3 e-bike in 2022; no CPSC recall found for the Gyroor C1 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: California riders who want air tires and a basket for less than the A5. Skip if you want a long ratings history. Read the Gyroor C1 spec sheet.

5. Joyhis JS01: the lightest budget seat on a post

The Joyhis JS01 is a standard 8.5-inch folding scooter sold with a padded seat on a post and a phone holder: 350 W, 19 mph, a 265 lb limit and about 32 lb. Joyhis states its battery, 36 V and 5.2 Ah (187.2 Wh), which we estimate covers about 7 to 9 miles at full speed against a 15-mile claim. Braking is an electronic brake plus a rear drum, on solid tires with no suspension.

Pick the Grey or White option. One Joyhis listing family sells seated and unseated options, and on October 19, 2026 the Pink option was titled "with Seat" while its photo showed none. Joyhis has no website. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. No CPSC recall found for the Joyhis JS01 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: short, flat trips where you want to sit some of the way. Skip if you need more than about 7 miles. Read the Joyhis JS01 review.

Seated scooters compared

How we estimate range: battery watt-hours divided by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, the middle half of 32 published full-speed range tests, adjusted to a 175 to 180 lb rider. Sitting does not change that much; rider weight, hills and cold weather do. In those tests scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range. We have not measured any of these ourselves.

Is an electric scooter with a seat legal?

In most states it follows the same rules as a stand-up scooter, with one big exception. California's definition of a motorized scooter covers one with "a seat and footrests in place of the floorboard" (Vehicle Code §407.5), caps riding at 15 mph (§22411) and requires a driver's license or instruction permit (§21235). New York's e-scooter definition covers a device with "a floorboard or a seat", under 100 lb and no faster than 20 mph (VTL §114-e); every pick here meets that as stated. New Jersey's legal e-scooter is a stand-up scooter under 19 mph and 750 W or less (NJ chart), so no seated model qualifies there. Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads at all (report).

Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. Weight and speed are where seated designs drift into moped rules: the bigger the frame and the faster it goes, the more likely a state treats it as a moped that needs registration, so check your state's definition before you buy anything heavier or faster than these. If you buy in New York City, scooters sold there must be certified to UL 2272 (Local Law 39), and California has required UL 2272 battery testing for scooters sold there since January 1, 2026. Every pick claims UL 2272 on its listing; we could not verify any in a certifier's directory.

Can you add a seat to the scooter you already have?

Often, yes. Hiboy sells a seat on Amazon that fits the Hiboy S2 and S2 Pro, rated for riders up to 220 lb, and Gotrax sells one for the Gotrax GXL V2. Universal seat kits clamp to decks of a stated width, so measure yours first. A bolt-on seat turns a stand-up scooter into a light seated one, about 30 to 40 lb, but it does not add suspension or bigger tires, and it does not change the law: in New Jersey a scooter ridden seated is still not a legal e-scooter.

The seated scooters we left out

Some of the most-recommended seated scooters are too fast to count as scooters under the state rules above. The isinwheel H7 and H7 Pro, sold on Amazon, claim 35 to 41 mph from 1,500 to 2,000 W motors, and several 14-inch seated listings claim 25 mph from 1,000 W peak motors. At those speeds most states treat them as mopeds or motor vehicles, with registration, insurance or a license plate, so they do not belong in a scooter guide. We also left out mobility scooters, the three- and four-wheel scooters for limited mobility: they are a different product with different rules. And as in our other guides, we skip seated listings with no battery size, no rider limit and no brake description, because there is nothing to check.

How we chose

We started from Amazon's Electric Scooters category on October 19, 2026 and kept seated scooters you can also stand on, with a top speed of 20 mph or less as stated, a rider limit and a brake description, and a page on this site. We ranked on what the seat is for: comfort (tire size and type, suspension), then range, rider limit, brakes and how much of the spec sheet can be checked. Where a maker publishes its own page (Gyroor) we used it and printed where Amazon differs; for the others every figure is the listing's, and each entry says so. UL 2272 status is the claim as stated. We searched CPSC recalls for every model on October 19, 2026. We have not ridden these scooters, and we do not take free samples.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best electric scooter with a seat for adults?

The Gotrax A5, for most adults: 12-inch air-filled tires, rear shocks, a padded seat, a rear basket, drum brakes front and rear and a 15.5 mph top speed, for riders up to 220 lb. For longer rides or riders up to 264 lb, the Gotrax FLEX ULTRA has 14-inch tires, suspension at both ends and about 17 to 21 miles of range by our estimate. On a budget, the Qlaway K078L puts a seat on a storage box and weighs about 30 lb.

Are electric scooters with seats legal?

In most states they follow the same scooter rules as stand-up models. California's scooter definition covers a seat and footrests, and caps scooters at 15 mph; New York's e-scooter definition includes a seat, with a 20 mph and 100 lb limit. New Jersey's legal e-scooter is stand-up only, so a seated model does not qualify there, and Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads. Faster, heavier seated scooters can count as mopeds; check your state.

How far can a seated electric scooter go?

About 7 to 21 miles at full speed for the picks on this page, by our estimate. The Gotrax FLEX ULTRA (460.8 Wh) goes furthest at about 17 to 21 miles, the Qlaway K078L about 11 to 13, the Gyroor C1 about 10 to 12 and the Joyhis JS01 about 7 to 9. The Gotrax A5 publishes no battery size. We divide battery watt-hours by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile for a 175 to 180 lb rider.

What is the lightest electric scooter with a seat?

The Qlaway K078L, at 28 lb by the listing we link (32 to 33.5 lb by Qlaway's other listings), and the Joyhis JS01 at about 32 lb. Both are folding kick scooters with a seat added, so they fit in a car trunk, but they ride on 8.5-inch solid tires with no suspension. Sit-down designs with air tires, like the Gotrax A5 (50.7 lb) and FLEX ULTRA (60.4 lb), are far heavier.

Which seated electric scooter is best for heavy adults?

The Gotrax FLEX ULTRA, rated for 264 lb, with 14-inch air tires, suspension at both ends and the biggest battery here (about 17 to 21 miles by our estimate, less for a heavier rider). The Qlaway K078L, Gyroor C1 and Joyhis JS01 are rated for 265 lb on 8.5 or 12-inch tires. The Gotrax A5 stops at 220 lb.

Can I add a seat to my electric scooter?

Often. Hiboy sells a seat that fits the Hiboy S2 and S2 Pro, Gotrax sells one for the GXL V2, and universal kits clamp to decks of a stated width. A bolt-on seat does not add suspension or bigger tires, and it does not change the law: in New Jersey a scooter ridden seated is still not a legal e-scooter.

Is a seated electric scooter the same as a mobility scooter?

No. A seated electric scooter is a two-wheel scooter you can also stand on, ridden in traffic or bike lanes under scooter rules. A mobility scooter is a three- or four-wheel vehicle for people with limited mobility, usually much slower, with different rules for sidewalks. This guide covers only seated electric scooters.
