The Segway Ninebot E2 Pro is the best electric scooter for a teen of 16 or older because it pairs the 15.5 mph cap with a real brand's spec sheet and a 2-year warranty. Segway rates it for ages 16 and up, riders 4 ft 5 in to 6 ft 5 in and up to 265 lb. The rear motor is rated at 350 W (750 W peak), the battery is 36 V by 7.65 Ah (275 Wh), and the 10-inch tubeless air tires are built not to leak. It stops with a front drum brake and a rear electronic brake, has front and rear turn indicators, traction control and Apple Find My, and claims an 18% climb. The scooter is IPX4 and the battery pack IPX6. The Segway E-series family it belongs to sat #5 in Amazon's Electric Scooters in October 2026.
Two details for parents. Segway's page says a firmware update in the app unlocks about 18.6 mph, so 15.5 mph is the speed as shipped, not a hard limit; decide who controls the app. And Amazon's product details list front suspension, which Segway does not: the E2 Pro has none. Segway claims 24.9 miles at 9.3 mph and 21.7 miles at 12.4 mph, with a 165 lb rider at 77°F. Ebike Oracle estimates about 10 to 13 miles at full speed for a 175 to 180 lb rider; our band runs low for 15.5 mph scooters, so a lighter teen will likely beat it. A full charge takes 5.5 hours.
Its 15.5 mph top speed is just over California's 15 mph riding limit and under New York's 20 mph e-scooter line. Segway states its scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory. The Amazon title adds UL 2271, which Segway's page does not claim. No CPSC recall found for the Segway Ninebot E2 Pro as of October 2026; the 2025 Segway recall covered the Max G30P and G30LP, not the E2 Pro.
Who it suits: a 16 or 17 year old riding a few miles to school or work, on mixed pavement. Skip if: it has to be carried up stairs every day. At 41.4 lb it is the heaviest scooter on this page, and it folds to 45.9 by 21.1 by 22.2 in.
