Our verdict

6.6
/ 10

The Aovowheel Y01 ($158.97 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) is a budget folding scooter with front and rear shocks, a rare feature under $200: a 350 W motor (700 W peak), 19 mph, 8.5-inch solid tires and a claimed 21 to 23 miles. Its Amazon family was #11 in Electric Scooters on October 19, 2026, but each color is a different model, and the cheapest option is not the Y01. Aovowheel has no website and publishes no battery size, so the range claim cannot be checked.

The numbers

Aovowheel Y01 Electric Scooter is a folding electric scooter that scores 6.6/10 on our editorial rubric, last verified on October 19, 2026. Amazon listed it at $159 as of October 22, 2026. Prices change often, so treat that as a snapshot. On Amazon it currently ranks #9 Best Seller in Electric Scooters. It pairs a 350 W motor (700 W peak), rated for a claimed range of up to 21 miles and a top speed of 19 mph. Its 19 mph top speed as shipped is above California's 15 mph scooter limit, so California riders must hold it to 15. New Jersey's legal e-scooter must be under 19 mph, so it is not a legal e-scooter there. It is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. The scooter weighs 36 lb and is rated for riders up to 265 lb. It rides on 8.5-inch solid tires, with dual suspension and a front electronic brake and a rear drum brake. The seller states UL 2272 certification (on the Amazon listing or the maker's own site); we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. It best suits budget riders on rough pavement who want suspension at both ends.

  • - The listing gives two weights (36 and 30 lb) and two ranges
  • - No website, no water rating and no disc brake

Who is this for?

  • Budget riders on rough pavement who want suspension at both ends
  • Short commutes and errands on dry days

What the Aovowheel Y01 is, and which option to pick

Aovowheel sells on Amazon only; aovowheel.com does not resolve. Its listing family was #11 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 19, 2026, with 4.1 stars from 1,606 ratings, but those ratings and that placement are shared by options that are different scooters, each with its own model number in the item details:

Model Amazon option names What its listing says
Y01 (this page) Orange, Orange-grey 350 W (700 W peak), 19 mph, 21 to 23 mi, front and rear shocks
Y06 Purple-black 350 W, 16 mph and 16 mi in one bullet (19 mph S mode in another), 22 lb, aimed at "young riders"
Y12 black 350 W, 23 mi, dual suspension
Y08 Green-dark gray 350 W, 19 mph, 22 mi, 31 lb

The option that shows the lowest price, Purple-black, is the Y06, a lighter, slower scooter with a graffiti deck; its bullets describe it for school runs and park rides. If you want the scooter this page covers, pick Orange or Orange-grey and check that the item details say model Y01 before you pay.

Even the Y01's own figures disagree. One bullet, which names the Y01, says 21 miles and 36 lb; the title and product table say 23 miles and the table says 30 lb. The Orange-grey Y01's table says 20 lb. Charging is 4 hours in a bullet and 5 hours in the table. The table's age range of 10 to 60 is a catalog field, not a maker's rider rule.

Speed, power and where you can ride it

Aovowheel lists a 350 W motor with a 700 W peak, a 19 mph top speed and a Bluetooth app (vicont) that it says sets the scooter's functions; the scooter also rides without it. It claims a 20° climb, which would be about 36%; that is steeper than any maker rating we have seen on a 350 W scooter, so plan on gentle slopes. Its 19 mph top speed is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit (VTL §114-e) and above California's 15 mph limit (Vehicle Code §22411), so California riders must hold it to 15. It is not under New Jersey's 19 mph line for a legal e-scooter. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. California also requires a driver's license or instruction permit (§21235), and Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads.

Battery and real range

Aovowheel does not publish the battery's size, voltage or amp-hours, so we cannot make our usual estimate from watt-hours. The claim is 21 miles in one place and 23 in another, with no test conditions. In published full-speed tests, scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range, which on a 21-mile claim points to roughly 12 miles at full speed for an average adult. Treat that as a rough guide, not a measurement.

Ride, brakes and build

The Y01's selling point is suspension: Aovowheel lists double shock absorbers front and rear and widened pedals, which few scooters at this price have. It still rides on 8.5-inch solid tires, which cannot go flat but feel firmer than air tires. Braking is an electronic front brake plus a rear drum, with no disc. Lights are a headlight and a warning taillight. No water (IP) rating is stated, so keep it out of the rain. It folds to about 18 inches tall, per the listing. The rider limit is 265 lb, and Aovowheel gives 12 months of service on parts.

Safety: UL 2272 and recalls

The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. The bullet reads "This E-Scooter has UL2272 certified" and names no testing lab. That matters in New York City, where Local Law 39 requires e-scooters sold there to be certified to UL 2272, and in California, which has required UL 2272 battery testing for motorized scooters sold there since January 1, 2026. No CPSC recall found for the Aovowheel Y01 as of October 2026. Our electric scooter safety guide explains what to check.

How it compares

  • WERHY H5 ($159.98 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): Amazon's #6, lighter at 30 lb by its listing, with the same 350 W, 19 mph and 8.5-inch solid tires, but no suspension confirmed and no UL 2272 claim. Neither publishes a battery size.
  • MAXSHOT V1 SPRO ($265.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): front and rear shocks too, on bigger 10-inch honeycomb tires, with a stated battery (about 378 Wh, an estimated 14 to 17 miles) and a 500 W motor. It costs more and reaches 22 mph, over New York's 20 mph line.
  • Hiboy S2 ($299.98 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): Hiboy publishes what Aovowheel does not, a 280.8 Wh battery (we estimate 10 to 13 miles), its range test conditions, IPX4 and a rear disc brake, with rear shocks only. It weighs 35.5 lb and carries 220 lb.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Buy the Y01 if you want front and rear shocks on a budget, ride a few miles at a time on dry pavement, and weigh under 265 lb. Pick the Orange or Orange-grey option, not the cheapest one. Skip it if you need a published battery size or water rating, ride in the rain, or want a disc brake. Our best electric scooters under $200 guide compares it with the other budget best sellers.

Frequently asked questions

Which Aovowheel electric scooter is the cheapest one?

On October 19, 2026 the lowest-priced option in Aovowheel's best-selling listing was Purple-black, which is the Y06, not the Y01. Its bullets describe a 22 lb scooter at 16 mph and 16 miles, aimed at young riders, though another bullet lists a 19 mph mode. The Y01 on this page is the Orange or Orange-grey option, with a 700 W peak motor and front and rear shocks. Check the model number in the item details before you buy.

How far does the Aovowheel Y01 go on a charge?

Aovowheel claims 21 miles in one place and 23 in another, and publishes no battery size, so we cannot estimate it from watt-hours. In published full-speed tests, scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range, which on a 21-mile claim points to roughly 12 miles at full speed for an average adult. Slower riding stretches it; cold, hills and a heavier rider shrink it.

Does the Aovowheel Y01 have suspension?

Yes, by the listing: double shock absorbers front and rear, with widened pedals. That is rare on a scooter at this price; the WERHY H5 listing contradicts itself on suspension and the Hiboy S2 has rear shocks only. The Y01 still rides on 8.5-inch solid tires, so it is firmer than a scooter on air tires.

Is the Aovowheel scooter UL 2272 certified?

The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. The claim is one line in a bullet with no testing lab named, and Aovowheel has no website. No CPSC recall found for the Aovowheel Y01 as of October 2026.

How fast is the Aovowheel Y01?

19 mph, per the listing. That is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit and above California's 15 mph limit, so California riders must hold it to 15. It is not under New Jersey's 19 mph line for a legal e-scooter. Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads, and scooters are not e-bikes, so the e-bike classes do not apply.
