Prices are subject to change, and the buy links always fetch the live price. Claimed range is the maker’s figure; our estimate divides the battery by the energy a 175 to 180 lb rider uses at full speed in published range tests, so lighter riders and slower speeds go further. “Seller states it” means the Amazon listing or the maker’s own site claims UL 2272 and we could not verify it in the certifier’s directory. “Not stated” means neither the listing nor the maker gives a figure.

The lightest pick on air-filled tires, at 40.1 lb. Segway rates it at 400 W and 20 mph, with a 368 Wh battery we estimate covers about 14 to 17 miles at full speed, close to Segway's own 17.5-mile SPORT figure. Front and rear shocks, IPX5, turn signals, a 265 lb limit and a 2-year warranty.

Best suspension for the money: front and rear suspension, 10-inch tubeless tires and IPX5 at a mid price. NAVEE rates it 350 W and 20 mph with 358 Wh, about 13 to 16 miles by our estimate. Read the maker's numbers: the listing's rear disc, 265 lb limit and 6-hour charge are NAVEE's no disc, 243 lb and 8 hours.

Best range on tires that cannot go flat. 417.6 Wh and a 500 W rated motor give an estimated 15 to 19 miles at full speed, about half again the Hiboy S2, on 10-inch honeycomb tires with rear shocks and a rear disc brake. Hiboy publishes three different weights for it (35.9 to 39.7 lb) and a 220 lb limit.

Best brakes and the biggest battery of the eight picks, at a premium price. The only pick with disc brakes front and rear, 608.4 Wh (about 23 to 28 miles by our estimate), a 25% climb rating, IP55 and 10.5-inch self-healing tubeless tires. Amazon's 23.6 mph title is NIU's global figure; the US model is 20 mph. 48.7 lb, 265 lb limit.

Best cheap pick. #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (October 2026), 31 lb, a 265 lb limit, 19 mph and a UL 2272 claim on the listing, with about 10 to 13 miles by our estimate. Every spec is the listing's: we found no maker website. Its product information says "Dual Suspension", but nothing on the listing describes it, so treat suspension as unconfirmed.

Amazon's #1 listing (October 2026), and its 16 options are nine different scooters, so pick a Q1 option. The Q1 is 350 W, 19 mph and 8.5-inch honeycomb tires with a 187.2 Wh battery, about 7 to 9 miles by our estimate. No certification stated, and no water rating.

TL;DR: 8 picks for adults

  5. Hiboy S2 Pro, $422.95 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best range on tires that cannot go flat. 417.6 Wh and an estimated 15 to 19 miles, about half again the S2, on 10-inch honeycomb tires.
  6. NIU KQi 300X, $899 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best brakes and the biggest battery of the picks. Disc brakes at both ends, 608.4 Wh, an estimated 23 to 28 miles, IP55 and a 25% climb rating. The premium pick.
  7. MAXSHOT V1, $149.99 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Best cheap pick. #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (October 2026), 31 lb, a 265 lb limit and a UL 2272 claim. No maker website to check it against.
  8. VOLPAM Q1, $159.98 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). Amazon's #1 listing (October 2026), if you pick the right option. The smallest battery among the ranked picks, an estimated 7 to 9 miles, and no certification stated.

Our method in brief

Eight scooters sold on Amazon US, chosen on October 18, 2026 from Amazon's Electric Scooters category placements, plus the premium models buyers ask about by name. Specs come from the maker's own spec sheet or manual wherever one exists; where the Amazon listing says something different, we print both and use the maker's figure. MAXSHOT has no maker site, so its figures are the listing's, and its entry says so. Range is our estimate (battery watt-hours divided by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile), never a measurement. UL 2272 status is the maker's or listing's claim, which we could not confirm in a certifier's directory for any pick. We searched CPSC recalls for every model. We have not ridden these scooters.

1. Segway Ninebot Max G2: best overall

The Segway Ninebot Max G2 is the best all-round electric scooter for adults on Amazon, because it pairs a 551 Wh battery with suspension at both ends. Segway rates the motor at 450 W with a 1,000 W peak; the Amazon title's "1000W Motor" is the peak. Segway claims 43 miles for a 165 lb rider averaging 9.9 mph at 77°F and, unusually, also prints range at top speed for the same rider: 28 miles at the 20 mph it ships at and 25 miles at its 22 mph setting. We estimate about 20 to 25 miles for a 175 to 180 lb rider at full speed. It rolls on 10-inch self-sealing tubeless tires (Segway says they seal punctures up to 4 mm), with a front hydraulic damper, rear springs, a front drum and rear electronic brake, IPX5, turn signals, a 22% climb rating, a built-in charger (about 5 hours) and a 2-year limited warranty.

It ships limited to 20 mph, which sits at New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit (VTL §114-e); the app setting raises it to about 22 mph, over that line, and California limits motorized scooters to 15 mph (Vehicle Code §22411). Segway states its scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory. Segway's 2025 recall of about 220,000 Max G30P and G30LP scooters (CPSC notice) was for their folding mechanism and does not cover the Max G2. No CPSC recall found for the Max G2 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: adults up to 265 lb with rough streets or a round trip over 10 miles. Skip if you carry it up stairs every day: at 53.5 lb it is the heaviest pick here. Read the Max G2 review.

2. Hiboy S2: best value from a known brand

The Hiboy S2 was #3 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, and it is the most-searched model name on this page, at about 14,800 US searches a month. Hiboy rates it at 350 W (500 W peak) and 19 mph in Sport mode, about 13 mph in Drive, on 8.5-inch honeycomb tires that cannot go flat, with rear dual spring shocks to take the edge off them. It weighs 35.5 lb, folds to 44.1 by 16.7 by 19.3 inches by Hiboy's manual and carries up to 220 lb. Braking is a rear disc plus an electronic brake, and the water rating is IPX4.

Hiboy's own documents disagree on the battery: 7.5 Ah on the product page and 7.8 Ah in the manual, so 270 or 280.8 Wh at 36 V. Hiboy claims 17 miles at a constant 11.4 mph with a 165 lb rider on flat ground at 77°F; we estimate about 10 to 13 miles at full speed. Hiboy publishes UL LLC certificates for it, UL 2272 for the scooter's electrical system and UL 2271 for the battery pack, linked from its product page; we could not check them in UL's directory, which needs a login. No CPSC recall found for the Hiboy S2 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders under 220 lb with a short, mostly flat trip who want a brand with manuals and a parts store online. Skip if you weigh over 220 lb or need more than about 5 miles each way. Read the Hiboy S2 review.

3. Segway Ninebot E3 Pro: lightest pick on air-filled tires

The Segway Ninebot E3 Pro is the lightest scooter on this page with air-filled tires and suspension at both ends, at 40.1 lb. Segway rates it at 400 W (800 W peak) and 20 mph, with a 368 Wh pack (36 V, 10.2 Ah). Segway quotes a range for each mode at that mode's top speed: about 34 miles in ECO, 25 in DRIVE and 17.5 in SPORT, for a 165 lb rider at 77°F. We estimate about 14 to 17 miles at full speed, close to Segway's own SPORT figure. It has 10-inch tubeless tires, front and rear elastomer shocks, a front drum and rear electronic brake, IPX5, a 4 W headlight, turn signals, an 18% climb rating and a 265 lb limit. Charging takes about 7 hours, and the warranty is 2 years.

Two listing gaps. The Amazon title promises traction control, which Segway's E3 Pro page does not mention, and it adds UL 2271, which Segway does not claim for this model. Segway states its scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory. The 2025 Max G30P and G30LP recall does not cover the E3 Pro. No CPSC recall found for the E3 Pro as of October 2026. Its 20 mph top speed is at New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit and above California's 15 mph limit.

Who it suits: adults who carry the scooter often and still want a 20 mph ride with suspension. Skip if you need the Max G2's range or the Hiboy S2's lower price. Read the E3 Pro review.

4. NAVEE GT3: best suspension for the money

The NAVEE GT3 puts front and rear suspension and 10-inch tubeless tires on a mid-priced scooter that sat #19 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (its GT3 listing family) on October 18, 2026. NAVEE rates it at 350 W (700 W peak) and 20 mph, with a 358 Wh battery, IPX5, an automatic 2 W headlight, front turn indicators, a 46.3 lb weight, a 243 lb limit and a 24-month limited warranty. NAVEE claims 31 miles at 9 mph and 19 miles at 20 mph; we estimate about 13 to 16 miles at full speed.

This is the pick where the listing and the maker disagree most. The Amazon listing claims a rear disc brake, a 265 lb limit, a 20% climb and 6-hour charging; NAVEE's US page lists a front drum plus rear electronic brake with no disc, 243 lb, 18% and 8 hours. NAVEE's own battery line ("46.8V 12.75Ah (358Wh)") does not multiply out; the manual's 7.65 Ah does. We use NAVEE's figures. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and NAVEE's own page makes no UL claim (it cites ASTM F2641 brake tests). No CPSC recall found for the NAVEE GT3 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders on broken pavement who want suspension at both ends without paying Max G2 money. Skip if you weigh over 243 lb, or you want a disc brake: by NAVEE's spec it has none. Read the NAVEE GT3 review.

5. Hiboy S2 Pro: best range on tires that cannot go flat

The Hiboy S2 Pro is the S2 with a bigger motor and battery: 500 W rated (600 W peak), 36 V and 11.6 Ah, which is 417.6 Wh in Amazon's comparison table (Hiboy states no watt-hour figure). Hiboy claims 25 miles under the same 165 lb, 11.4 mph test as the S2; we estimate about 15 to 19 miles at full speed, roughly half again what the S2 manages. It keeps the 19 mph top speed, rear disc and electronic brakes, rear dual shocks and IPX4, on 10-inch honeycomb tires, with a 220 lb limit and a 1-year warranty.

Hiboy's documents give three weights (37.4 lb on the product page, 39.7 lb in the manual, 35.9 lb on Amazon) and three climb figures (15 degrees, about 17% and 15%; 15 degrees would be about 27%, so these are different claims). The product page says rear hub motor, while the manual and Hiboy's own parts store put the motor in the front wheel. Hiboy publishes UL LLC certificates for it, UL 2272 for the electrical system and UL 2271 for the battery pack, linked from its product page; we could not check them in UL's directory, which needs a login. No CPSC recall found for the Hiboy S2 Pro as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders under 220 lb who want the most battery Hiboy sells at this level and tires that never puncture. Skip if you want air-filled tires or a water rating above IPX4. Read the Hiboy S2 Pro review.

6. NIU KQi 300X: best brakes and the biggest battery of our picks

The NIU KQi 300X is the best-equipped of the eight picks on paper, and the premium choice (the Max G3 honorable mention below goes further, with hydraulic suspension at both ends, IPX6 and a 286 lb limit). It is the only ranked pick with disc brakes at both ends (plus regenerative braking), it carries the biggest battery of the eight picks at 608.4 Wh (48 V, 13 Ah), and it adds a 25% climb rating, IP55 and 10.5-inch self-healing tubeless tires on a front hydraulic fork. NIU rates the motor at 500 W (1,000 W peak). Amazon sells it as the "NIU K300X" with a 23.6 mph title; that is NIU's global figure (38 km/h), and NIU's US store says 20 mph on the road. NIU claims 37.3 miles, measured at a constant 9.3 mph with a 165 lb rider; we estimate about 23 to 28 miles at full speed, the most of any pick.

It weighs 48.7 lb, carries 265 lb, is rated for riders 14 and up, and NIU covers the main body, battery and motor included, for 2 years. NIU states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory (the Amazon listing says only that all NIU scooters "hold UL certification"). No CPSC recall found for the KQi 300X as of October 2026. Buy the listing sold under NIU's own name: a "Generic" seller lists a renewed KQi 300X, which we do not link.

Who it suits: riders with hills, long trips or wet roads who will pay for the best brakes here. Skip if price matters most, or you want rear suspension: it has a front fork only. Weighing it against the Max G2? See Segway Max G2 vs NIU KQi 300X. Read the KQi 300X review.

7. MAXSHOT V1: best cheap pick

The MAXSHOT V1 was #2 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, and it is the cheap pick we would take over the #1 listing: more battery and a UL 2272 claim. We could not find a maker website to check it against (maxshot.com is parked, and a site that calls itself official runs Amazon affiliate links), so every figure here is the listing's. MAXSHOT lists a 350 W motor without saying rated or peak, 19 mph with modes of 9, 12 and 19 mph, a 7.8 Ah battery at 37 V on this listing and 36 V on a sibling (about 281 to 289 Wh by our arithmetic), 21 miles "under specific conditions", 31 lb, a 265 lb limit, 8.5-inch honeycomb tires and an electronic brake plus a drum. We estimate about 10 to 13 miles at full speed.

The V1's product information says "Dual Suspension", as the family title does, but no bullet or image on the V1 listing describes or shows a shock, so treat its suspension as unconfirmed. The nine color choices are five V1s and four other models (S78, V7, V1MAX and V1SPRO), so check that the option you pick says V1. No water rating is stated. The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory, and no lab is named. No CPSC recall found for the MAXSHOT V1 as of October 2026.

Who it suits: riders up to 265 lb with short trips and a tight budget. Skip if you want a maker you can reach outside Amazon, confirmed suspension, or a stated water rating. Read the MAXSHOT V1 review.

8. VOLPAM Q1: Amazon's #1 listing, if you pick the right option

The VOLPAM Q1 is the scooter behind the #1 listing in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026, and that listing's 16 color options are really nine different scooters, so the first job is choosing the Q1. On that date the Q1 options were "Orange-blackcm", "Gray Orange" and "Green-Blackcm"; the other 13 are the LP30 (four options), the S78 (three), the SPORT, 10SPORT, SPT6, SP01 and SP08, and a 250 W kids' scooter, the C003. Our buy button opens the Q1. The title's "350W/500W" and "21/28/40 Miles" describe the whole family.

The Q1 itself is 350 W (VOLPAM does not say rated or peak), 19 mph with modes of 8, 11 and 19 mph, 8.5-inch honeycomb tires, an electronic brake plus a rear drum, no suspension, a 264 lb limit and about 15 miles claimed. The only battery figure, 187.2 Wh, appears on a sibling Q1 listing; from it we estimate about 7 to 9 miles at full speed, the least of the eight picks (the Gotrax GXL V2 honorable mention ties it). Weight is 26 lb in the listing images and 15 kg (33.1 lb) on volpam.com. Neither the listing nor VOLPAM's Q1 page states UL 2272: no certification stated. No CPSC recall found for the VOLPAM Q1 as of October 2026. The star rating is pooled across all nine models.

Who it suits: riders with a trip of about 3 miles each way who want the lightest scooter here by its listing. Skip if you live in New York City or California (both require UL 2272 testing for scooters sold there), or you charge indoors and want a UL claim on paper. Read the VOLPAM Q1 review.

Are the Segway Max G2, NIU KQi 300X and Segway E3 Pro worth it over Amazon's cheap best sellers?

Yes, if you ride more than a couple of miles each way or weigh over 220 lb. Against Amazon's three best sellers on October 18, 2026, the three premium names give you from about a quarter more battery (E3 Pro against the MAXSHOT V1) to over three times as much (KQi 300X against the VOLPAM Q1), air-filled tubeless tires with suspension, a stated water rating, a 2-year warranty and, for the two Segways, published range test conditions. What they cost you is weight, 40 to 54 lb against 26 to 36 lb, and money; the live prices are in the table at the top of this page.

Scooter # in Amazon's Electric Scooters, Oct 18, 2026 Battery, our full-speed estimate Tires and suspension Brakes Water rating, warranty
Segway Max G2 #31 (Max family) 551 Wh, 20 to 25 mi 10 in tubeless self-sealing; front hydraulic, rear spring front drum, rear electronic IPX5, 2 years
NIU KQi 300X #81 (NIU K family) 608.4 Wh, 23 to 28 mi 10.5 in tubeless; front hydraulic fork front and rear disc, regenerative IP55, 2 years
Segway E3 Pro #5 (E-series family) 368 Wh, 14 to 17 mi 10 in tubeless; front and rear elastomer front drum, rear electronic IPX5, 2 years
Hiboy S2 #3 280.8 Wh, 10 to 13 mi 8.5 in honeycomb; rear dual spring rear disc, electronic IPX4, 1 year
MAXSHOT V1 #2 about 281 to 289 Wh (computed), 10 to 13 mi 8.5 in honeycomb; unconfirmed (listed as dual, none described) electronic plus drum not stated, 1 year
VOLPAM Q1 #1 187.2 Wh (sibling listing), 7 to 9 mi 8.5 in honeycomb; none electronic plus rear drum not stated, 12 months or 180 days by part

The paperwork differs too. Segway, NIU and Hiboy state UL 2272 on their own sites (Segway names TÜV Rheinland as the tester, and Hiboy links UL LLC certificates by number); the MAXSHOT V1's claim sits on Amazon only; the VOLPAM Q1 states none. We could not check any of them in a certifier's directory. The cheap best sellers still make sense for a short, flat trip by a lighter rider, and the Hiboy S2 is the one we would start with, because Hiboy publishes a manual, a test method and a warranty page you can read before you buy.

How far can an electric scooter go on one charge?

About 7 to 28 miles for the picks on this page, by our estimate, which is about 40 to 75% of what the makers print. Advertised ranges come from light riders at low speed: Hiboy tests at a constant 11.4 mph with a 165 lb rider on flat ground at 77°F, and Segway at 9 to 10 mph with the same rider weight. We estimate range by dividing each battery's watt-hours by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, the middle half of 32 published full-speed range tests of commuter scooters, adjusted to a rider of about 175 to 180 lb. In those tests scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range. The Max G2's 551 Wh therefore works out to about 20 to 25 miles against Segway's 43, and the Hiboy S2's 280.8 Wh to about 10 to 13 against Hiboy's 17. Expect less in the cold, on steep hills or if you weigh more, and more if you ride slower. We have not measured any of this ourselves.

How fast can you legally ride an electric scooter?

Usually 15 to 20 mph, and the scooter's top speed is often over the line. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply to any pick here. California limits motorized scooters to 15 mph (Vehicle Code §22411) and also requires a driver's license or instruction permit, a helmet under 18, and no sidewalk riding (§21235). New York defines an e-scooter as under 100 lb and capable of no more than 20 mph (VTL §114-e). New Jersey's legal e-scooter is stand-up, under 19 mph and 750 W or less (NJ chart). Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads at all; a bill to change that, HB 1633, has not passed (report).

Against those lines: the Hiboy S2, S2 Pro, MAXSHOT V1 and VOLPAM Q1 top out at 19 mph, and the Max G2, E3 Pro, GT3 and KQi 300X at 20 mph in their US settings, so all eight sit at or under New York's line and all eight are faster than California's 15 mph limit. The Max G2's optional 22 mph setting goes past New York's. Check your city's rules too.

Are electric scooters safe to buy on Amazon?

The ones with a maker behind them and a UL 2272 claim are the safer bet, though no claim on this page could be checked in a certifier's directory. UL 2272 covers the fire and electrical safety of the whole scooter; it does not test folding stems, forks or brakes, which is where most recent recalls came from. New York City has required UL 2272 certification for scooters sold there since September 16, 2023 (Local Law 39), California has required UL 2272 battery testing for motorized scooters sold there since January 1, 2026 (SB 1271), and the CPSC proposed a national rule in June 2026 (Federal Register). To check a claim yourself, search UL Product iQ for the brand or the file number on the label.

We found no CPSC recall since 2023 for Hiboy, NIU, NAVEE or VOLPAM (checked October 18, 2026), and no recall for any model on this page. Segway had two recalls in the period: about 220,000 Max G30P and G30LP scooters in March 2025 (folding mechanism), and about 1,400 Ninebot P100S scooters built in 2023, in November 2024 (front fork). Neither covers any scooter on this page; G30P and G30LP owners can find the remedy on Segway's recall page. Wear a helmet: the CPSC estimates 79,300 emergency-room visits involving e-scooters in 2024, and only 18% of the injured riders it followed up were wearing one. More in our electric scooter safety guide.

Solid or air-filled tires?

Air-filled tires ride softer and grip better in the wet; honeycomb solid tires never go flat and ride harder. Four picks use 8.5 or 10-inch honeycomb tires (Hiboy S2, Hiboy S2 Pro, MAXSHOT V1, VOLPAM Q1), and the two Hiboys add rear springs to make up for it. The other four use 10-inch or larger tubeless air tires, and two are self-sealing: the Max G2's (Segway says they seal punctures up to 4 mm) and the KQi 300X's. If your streets are rough and you would rather not fix a flat, the Max G2 has both answers.

How we chose

We started from Amazon's Electric Scooters category on October 18, 2026, kept models in its top 60 (VOLPAM #1, MAXSHOT #2, Hiboy S2 #3, Segway E-series #5, NAVEE GT3 #19, Hiboy S2 Pro #25, Segway Max #31), and added the NIU KQi 300X (#81), a premium model buyers ask for by name. Every pick is sold under its brand's name on Amazon US, claims 20 mph or less in its US setting, and has a full page on this site. Specs come from each maker's spec sheet or manual, checked against the listing; where they disagree we print both and use the maker's. MAXSHOT has no maker site, and its entry says so. UL 2272 status is the claim as stated, never upgraded to "certified". We searched CPSC recalls for every model on October 18, 2026. Range is our estimate, the method above. We have not ridden these scooters, and we do not take free samples.

  • Segway Ninebot E2 Pro Electric Scooter product photo

Segway Ninebot E2 Pro Electric Scooter

    $499.99as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The cheaper Segway, and the one to buy where speed rules are strict: it ships at 15.5 mph, with an 18.6 mph firmware unlock, which keeps it under New Jersey's 19 mph line either way. Segway rates it 350 W (750 W peak) with 275 Wh; we estimate about 10 to 13 miles, and our method tends to underestimate slower scooters like this one. It weighs 41.4 lb, more than the E3 Pro, and Segway's spec table lists turn indicators but no headlight.

  • Segway Ninebot Max G3 Electric Scooter product photo

Segway Ninebot Max G3 Electric Scooter

    $999.99as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The step up from the Max G2: 850 W rated (2,000 W peak), 597 Wh, disc brakes front and rear, hydraulic suspension at both ends, IPX6 and a 286 lb limit. It ships at 20 mph and reaches 28 mph only after an app unlock, which is above every state line on this page. Segway's US store marks it end of life, and the battery and folding mechanism carry 1 year inside the marketed 2-year warranty.

  • NIU KQi2 Pro Electric Scooter product photo

    NIU KQi2 Pro Electric Scooter

    $199.99as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The brand-name scooter that fits under $200 at our last check ($199.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change), and our top pick in the under-$200 guide: 365 Wh, 10-inch tubeless tires, IP54 and a 2-year warranty on the battery and motor. NIU's US store lists it as sold out and tags it "OLD", so the Amazon stock may not last.

  • MAXSHOT V1 SPRO Electric Scooter product photo

    MAXSHOT V1 SPRO Electric Scooter

    $265.99as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

Suspension on a budget ($265.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): MAXSHOT's step up from our #7 pick, the V1, with front and rear shocks, 10-inch honeycomb tires, a 500 W motor and about 378 Wh, an estimated 14 to 17 miles. #8 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 20, 2026. It reaches 22 mph, over New York's 20 mph line, states no water rating and names no lab for its UL 2272 claim.

  • Gotrax GXL V2 Electric Scooter product photo

    Gotrax GXL V2 Electric Scooter

    $299as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

A 27 lb, 15.5 mph scooter for the last mile from a bus or train, from a brand with a US store. The 187.2 Wh battery is small (about 7 to 9 miles by our estimate), Gotrax states no water rating and its manual says not to ride in wet conditions, so it missed the picks on range and rain.

  • Segway Ninebot F3 Electric Scooter product photo

    Segway Ninebot F3 Electric Scooter

    $849.99as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The lighter alternative to the Max G2 at a similar Amazon price ($849.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): 42.3 lb, a 477 Wh battery (about 18 to 22 miles by our estimate), a front disc brake, suspension at both ends and IPX6. It ships at 20 mph. It takes about 8 hours to charge, and the Max G2 goes further.

Segway's all-terrain scooter ($799.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): a 1,600 W peak motor, 11-inch off-road tubeless tires, suspension and disc brakes at both ends, and a 25% climb rating. It ships at 24.9 mph, above every state line on this page, and weighs 65.5 lb; Segway quotes 18.6 miles at that speed.

  • Hiboy KS4 Pro Electric Scooter product photo

    Hiboy KS4 Pro Electric Scooter

    $399.98as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The S2 Pro (our #5 pick) with wider 18.9-inch handlebars, at $399.98 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): Hiboy sells the same front motor wheel, 417.6 Wh replacement battery and charger for both, so the 19 mph, estimated 15 to 19 miles, honeycomb tires, rear shocks and IPX4 match, and Hiboy publishes UL 2272 and UL 2271 certificates for each. Buy whichever of the two is cheaper; see KS4 Pro vs S2 Pro.

  • NIU KQi 300P Electric Scooter product photo

    NIU KQi 300P Electric Scooter

    $749as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The KQi 300X (our #6 pick) with a smaller battery, at $749 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): the same hydraulic front fork, 10.5-inch tubeless tire size, disc brakes front and rear, IP55 and 265 lb limit, with 486.7 Wh (about 18 to 22 miles by our estimate) and a 450 W rated motor, 2.7 lb lighter. Every NIU listing we found gives 20 mph, so there is no faster version to unlock. See KQi 300P vs 300X.

  • KuKirin G2 Electric Scooter product photo

    KuKirin G2 Electric Scooter

    $599as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

An 800 W rated motor and a 748.8 Wh battery for $599 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) (about 28 to 34 miles in its 21.7 mph mode by our estimate), on 10-inch tubeless tires with suspension and disc brakes at both ends. It is a mention because its 28 mph top mode is above every state line on this page, it weighs 57 lb, it is IP54, and its UL 2272 claim appears only on the Amazon listing, with no lab named.

  • OOTD T10 Electric Scooter product photo

    OOTD T10 Electric Scooter

    $499.98as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT

The biggest battery of any scooter we cover, 864 Wh, on 11-inch tubeless tires with suspension and disc brakes at both ends, for $499.98 (as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change). It ships limited to 15.5 mph and unlocks to 31. It is a mention because OOTD sells only in Europe, so its written warranty does not cover US Amazon buyers, the listing makes no UL 2272 claim, and it weighs 62 lb.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best electric scooter for adults?

The Segway Ninebot Max G2, for most adults. It carries a 551 Wh battery that we estimate covers about 20 to 25 miles at full speed for a 175 to 180 lb rider, with front and rear suspension, 10-inch self-sealing tubeless tires, IPX5, turn signals and a 265 lb limit. It ships at 20 mph. The trade is weight: 53.5 lb. If you carry your scooter often, the Segway E3 Pro is 40.1 lb with the same IPX5 rating and an estimated 14 to 17 miles. If price comes first, the Hiboy S2 is #3 in Amazon's Electric Scooters (October 2026) at 35.5 lb.

What is the best cheap electric scooter for adults?

The Hiboy S2 if you can stretch to it, the MAXSHOT V1 if you cannot. The Hiboy S2 ($299.98 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) comes from a brand that publishes a manual, a range test method and a warranty page, and adds a rear disc brake and rear shocks; we estimate about 10 to 13 miles. The MAXSHOT V1 ($149.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) was #2 on Amazon in October 2026 and carries 265 lb against the Hiboy's 220, but every spec comes from the listing, since we found no maker website. Both claim UL 2272 on Amazon; we could not verify either in a certifier's directory.

How far will an electric scooter really go on one charge?

About 40 to 75% of the advertised figure at full speed, by our estimate; in the published tests behind it, scooters covered a median 59%. We estimate range by dividing battery watt-hours by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile, a band taken from 32 published full-speed tests and adjusted to a 175 to 180 lb rider. On that basis the NIU KQi 300X's 608.4 Wh gives about 23 to 28 miles (NIU claims 37.3), the Segway Max G2 about 20 to 25 (Segway claims 43), the Hiboy S2 about 10 to 13 (Hiboy claims 17) and the VOLPAM Q1 about 7 to 9 (VOLPAM claims 15). Ride slower and you will beat these numbers; ride in the cold or up hills and you will fall short.

Which electric scooter is best for heavier adults?

The Segway Max G2, Segway E3 Pro and NIU KQi 300X, which all carry 265 lb and ride on 10-inch or larger air-filled tires. The MAXSHOT V1 also lists 265 lb and the VOLPAM Q1 264 lb, on smaller honeycomb tires. For more headroom, the Segway Max G3, an honorable mention, carries 286 lb. Skip both Hiboys (220 lb) and the NAVEE GT3 (243 lb by NAVEE's spec, though its Amazon listing says 265). Weight also costs range: energy use rises about 3.4% for every extra 10 lb of rider, so a 250 lb rider should expect less than our estimates, which assume about 175 to 180 lb.

Is the Segway Ninebot Max G2 part of the Segway scooter recall?

No. Segway's March 20, 2025 recall covered about 220,000 Ninebot Max G30P and G30LP scooters, whose folding mechanism could fail, and it does not include the Max G2. Segway's other recall in the period, about 1,400 Ninebot P100S scooters built in 2023 (November 2024, front fork), does not cover it either. No CPSC recall found for the Max G2 as of October 2026, and none for the Segway E3 Pro. If you own a G30P or G30LP, the remedy is on Segway's recall page and the CPSC notice. Segway states its current scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory.

Is it legal to ride an electric scooter on the road?

In most states yes, under scooter rules that differ from e-bike rules, and in Pennsylvania no: e-scooters are not allowed on public roads there. California requires a driver's license or instruction permit, a helmet under 18 and no sidewalks, and caps scooters at 15 mph, so every pick here, from the 19 mph Hiboy S2 to the 20 mph Segway Max G2, must be ridden below its top speed there. New York defines an e-scooter as 20 mph or less and under 100 lb, which all eight picks meet in their shipped settings. Check your city before you buy.

Is the VOLPAM electric scooter any good?

The VOLPAM Q1 is a light, basic scooter with a small battery, and the listing makes it easy to buy the wrong model. Amazon's #1 Electric Scooters listing (October 2026) offers 16 options that are nine different scooters; the Q1 options were "Orange-blackcm", "Gray Orange" and "Green-Blackcm". The Q1 is 350 W and 19 mph on 8.5-inch honeycomb tires, with a 187.2 Wh battery we estimate covers about 7 to 9 miles. No certification stated, and no water rating. For a little more battery and a UL 2272 claim, look at the MAXSHOT V1.

Segway Max G2 or NIU KQi 300X: which is better?

The NIU KQi 300X is better equipped and the Segway Max G2 is the better value. The KQi 300X has disc brakes at both ends, 608.4 Wh (about 23 to 28 miles by our estimate), a 25% climb rating, IP55 and weighs 48.7 lb. The Max G2 has suspension at both ends where the NIU has a front fork only, 551 Wh (about 20 to 25 miles), IPX5 and weighs 53.5 lb. Both carry 265 lb and run 20 mph in the US.
