Spec-verified against the manufacturer listing
Our verdict
The AYOLNY 26-inch e-bike is Amazon's best-selling electric mountain bike right now (#1 in Electric Mountain Bikes, October 2026): a conventional 26-inch, seven-speed hardtail with a 20 mph top speed for $299.99. Its weak point is the battery. At 374 Wh it is smaller than the 540 Wh the sixblues EB3S carries for the same money, so plan on about 20 miles, not the 40 claimed.

The 30-second verdict
The AYOLNY 26-inch electric mountain bike is #1 in Amazon's Electric Mountain Bikes chart (October 2026), and in our October sweep of Amazon's e-bike charts it had the best overall sales rank of any e-bike we saw. It is a conventional bike: 26-inch wheels on 1.95-inch mountain tires, a seven-speed drivetrain, a hub motor quoted at 1000 W peak, a 20 mph top speed, a 36 V 10.4 Ah (374 Wh) battery, and an LCD display with app pairing and a USB port. At $299.99 it is a low price for a full-size bike with gears.
What sells a bike on Amazon and what makes it the right buy are different questions. The AYOLNY's listing is short on the numbers that decide whether a budget e-bike is a good buy: no rated motor wattage, no weight, no payload on this configuration, and a certification line that names the lab but not the standard. The battery is the clearest gap. For the same money the sixblues EB3S carries 540 Wh and states both UL standards on its listing. We have not ridden the AYOLNY, and everything below comes from AYOLNY's Amazon listings and our arithmetic on them.

One listing, three different bikes
One listing, three different bikes
The Amazon page sells three configurations under one listing, and they are not the same bike with a different colour. This page reviews the cheapest, at $299.99: the 1000 W peak motor, the 36 V 10.4 Ah battery and 26 x 1.95 tires. A second configuration uses the same 36 V battery on 26 x 2-inch tires and adds two facts the base listing leaves out: a 750 W rated motor and a 264 lb maximum load. The dearest has a 1500 W peak (750 W rated) motor and a larger 48 V 13 Ah (624 Wh) battery that AYOLNY quotes at up to 70 miles.
If range matters to you, the 48 V build is the one to look at, because it fixes the base bike's main weakness. Check which option is selected before you add it to the cart: the listing's headline photo and price change with the option, and the summary line above the buy button is easy to miss on a phone.
Battery and range
Battery and range
The base battery is 36 V x 10.4 Ah = 374 Wh, and AYOLNY claims up to 40 miles per charge in pedal-assist mode. A 26-inch hardtail on 1.95-inch tires draws roughly 15-22 Wh per mile with a rider aboard:
- 374 Wh / 22 Wh per mile = 17 miles (throttle-heavy riding, hills)
- 374 Wh / 18 Wh per mile = 21 miles (our planning figure)
- 374 Wh / 15 Wh per mile = 25 miles (light rider, low assist, flat ground)
- 374 Wh / 40 miles = 9.4 Wh per mile, which is what the 40-mile claim requires
Nine to ten watt-hours per mile is reachable only at the lowest assist level by a light rider pedalling hard on flat ground, so treat 40 miles as a best case. About 20 miles is the honest planning figure, enough for a commute of up to 8-10 miles each way with margin. The listing calls the battery "integrated" and does not say whether it removes for charging, which matters if you plan to charge indoors and store the bike somewhere else. Ask the seller before you buy if that is your situation.
Is the AYOLNY 26-inch e-bike street legal?
Is the AYOLNY 26-inch e-bike street legal?
On speed, it has the Class 2 shape. The listing states a 20 mph maximum, and Class 2 allows a throttle up to 20 mph and is treated as a bicycle in nearly every state, including the seven jurisdictions that ban Class 3 (DC, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and South Carolina). The open question is the motor rating. The federal low-speed electric bicycle definition in 15 U.S.C. §2085 caps the motor at 750 W, and the states that use the three-class system follow it. This configuration's listing gives only a 1000 W peak figure. Peak is the brief maximum a motor draws when accelerating, and the two sibling configurations both state 750 W rated, which suggests the same rating here, but this listing does not say so. On paperwork alone we cannot confirm the class, so we do not assign one. New Jersey and Hawaii require registration for e-bikes; check your state for path and sidewalk rules.
Certification
Certification
The base listing says that "both the complete ebike and lithium-ion battery carry SGS safety certifications". SGS is a real testing laboratory, but the sentence does not name a standard. The 26 x 2-inch configuration is more specific: "SGS certification to 2849" for the whole bike and "certified to 2271 by SGS" for the battery, which are UL 2849 and UL 2271, the two standards US rules name. New York City's Local Law 39 of 2023 bans the sale of e-bikes and batteries not certified to one of them, California's SB 1271 has required certification for e-bikes sold there since January 2026, and more apartment buildings ask to see a certificate before they allow indoor charging.
It is likely that the same certificate covers all three builds, since they share a frame, a seller and a listing, but likely is not documented. If certification decides your purchase, ask AYOLNY for the certificate number for the exact configuration you are buying. Two bikes we review document both standards on their own listings: the sixblues EB3S at $299.99 and the Funhang EB-M1 at $219.99.
The rest of the sheet
The rest of the sheet
The seven-speed drivetrain gives you usable gears for pedalling with the motor off, and AYOLNY describes it as precise rather than naming the maker. The G51 display shows speed, trip distance and remaining battery, pairs with an app for riding settings, and has a USB port for charging a phone. The listing says the bike ships 90% pre-assembled with 12 months of after-sales support.
The listing does not state the brakes, the suspension, the bike weight or, on this configuration, the payload. Comparable 26-inch hardtails at this price usually have mechanical disc brakes, a basic coil fork, a weight of 50-60 lb and a 260-330 lb payload, and the sibling configuration states 264 lb. If you are near that limit, or need hydraulic brakes, confirm before ordering rather than assuming.
Who should buy it
Who should buy it
Buy this if you want a full-size, 26-inch e-bike with gears and a 20 mph cap at the lowest price, and your rides are under about 20 miles a charge. It is also the bike more Amazon shoppers are choosing than any other electric mountain bike right now, which counts for something at this price.
Skip it if range matters (the sixblues EB3S has 45% more battery for the same money, and the AYOLNY's own 48 V build fixes this too), if you need documented UL certification on the exact listing you buy, or if you need a published weight and payload. Riders who mostly cover short, flat trips on a tighter budget should look at the Funhang EB-M1, which costs less and documents both UL standards. Frequently asked questions
Is the AYOLNY 26-inch e-bike any good?
It is Amazon's best-selling electric mountain bike right now (#1 in Electric Mountain Bikes, October 2026), and at $299.99 it gives you full-size 26-inch wheels, seven gears and a 20 mph cap. Its weak point is a small 374 Wh battery: plan on about 20 miles a charge. For the same money the sixblues EB3S has a 540 Wh battery and documents both UL standards on its listing.
How far can the AYOLNY e-bike go on one charge?
Plan on about 20 miles for the 36 V model. The battery is 374 Wh (36 V x 10.4 Ah), and a 26-inch hardtail draws roughly 15-22 Wh per mile, which gives 17-25 miles depending on throttle use, hills and rider weight. The "up to 40 miles" claim needs about 9.4 Wh per mile, a best case at the lowest assist level. The 48 V 13 Ah build in the same listing has about two-thirds more battery.
Is the AYOLNY e-bike UL certified?
The base listing says the bike and battery "carry SGS safety certifications" without naming a standard. A sibling configuration in the same listing names them: UL 2849 for the bike and UL 2271 for the battery, both by SGS. If you need the certificate for a building, for New York City's Local Law 39 or for California's SB 1271, ask AYOLNY for the certificate number for the exact configuration you are buying.
Is the AYOLNY 26-inch e-bike street legal?
On speed, yes: the listing states a 20 mph maximum, the Class 2 shape, which is treated as a bicycle in nearly every state. This configuration gives only a 1000 W peak motor figure, so the 750 W federal limit cannot be confirmed from its listing, although both sibling builds state 750 W rated. Check your state for path rules.
AYOLNY vs sixblues EB3S: which should I buy?
For range and paperwork, the sixblues EB3S at $299.99: a 540 Wh battery against the AYOLNY's 374 Wh, and both UL standards named on its own listing. The AYOLNY, at $299.99, is the more popular bike on Amazon and offers a 48 V upgrade in the same listing. Both state 20 mph and publish only a peak motor figure.
Which AYOLNY configuration should I choose?
The listing sells three builds. The base model (this review) has a 1000 W peak motor and a 36 V 374 Wh battery on 26 x 1.95 tires. A second uses the same battery on 26 x 2-inch tires and states a 750 W rated motor and 264 lb load. The dearest has a 1500 W peak (750 W rated) motor and a 48 V 13 Ah (624 Wh) battery. If range matters, pick the 48 V build and check the selected option before checkout.
An e-bike this heavy is a theft target, and most bike insurance won't pay out without a rated lock.
