Our verdict
The SIMATE S5 ($139.97 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) is a kids' electric scooter for ages 6 to 14 and riders 4 ft to 5 ft 3 in, with a 154 lb limit, more than most kids' scooters allow. It has a 130 W motor that starts only after the child kicks it to 2 mph, an 8.7 mph top speed, about 5 miles of claimed range, light-up wheels and deck, and an electronic plus foot brake. Its listing states no UL 2272 certification, which is why it is not one of our kids' picks.

The numbers
SIMATE S5 Kids' Electric Scooter is a folding kids' electric scooter for riders aged 6 to 14 that scores 6.5/10 on our editorial rubric, last verified on October 20, 2026. Amazon listed it at $140 as of October 22, 2026. Prices change often, so treat that as a snapshot. On Amazon it currently ranks #21 Best Seller in Electric Scooters. It pairs a 130 W motor, rated for a claimed range of up to 5 miles and a top speed of 8.7 mph. The scooter is rated for riders up to 154 lb. It rides on 6.5-inch solid tires, with dual suspension and an electronic brake and a rear foot brake. Neither the listing nor the maker states UL 2272 certification. Follow the maker's age and weight limits and use a helmet every ride. It best suits bigger kids of 6 to 14, up to 154 lb and 5 ft 3 in.

What the SIMATE S5 is
The S5 is a folding kids' kick scooter with a small motor, 6.5-inch solid wheels, shock absorbers front and rear, an LED display and colored lights on the front and along the deck. SIMATE sells on Amazon only; we found no website for the brand. Its listing was #22 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 20, 2026, the third kids' model on that chart after the Segway Ninebot C2 and the Gotrax GKS Mini, with 4.2 stars from 175 ratings. It comes in several colors; Amazon's item details give the model name as S5.

Which child it fits
Which child it fits
SIMATE sizes it for ages 6 to 14 and riders 4 ft to 5 ft 3 in tall, up to 154 lb. That weight limit is higher than the Segway C2 Lite's 110 lb or the C2 Pro's 132 lb, so the S5 is one of the few kids' electric scooters a bigger 10 to 14-year-old will not outgrow quickly. The title says the handlebar height adjusts; no handlebar heights are given, so check the fit against your child's height in the photos before buying.
Speed, modes and where kids can ride
Speed, modes and where kids can ride
The motor is 130 W and the top speed 8.7 mph (14 km/h), with speed levels shown on the display. The motor will not engage until the scooter is moving at about 2 mph, so the child pushes off first and it does not lurch from a standstill. Start a new rider on the slowest level. We treat every kids' electric scooter as something to ride with an adult nearby, on paths, driveways and quiet spaces away from traffic. Many states set a minimum age or a license rule for riding an electric scooter on public roads; California requires a driver's license or instruction permit (§21235). Check your town's rules on where powered scooters may go.
Battery and real range
Battery and real range
SIMATE claims up to 5 miles (8 km) and calls the battery lithium-ion, but publishes no voltage, amp-hours or watt-hours and no charging time. Our usual range estimate divides watt-hours by 22 to 27 per mile, a band measured with adults of 175 to 180 lb, so it does not fit a kids' scooter even when the battery size is known. Treat 5 miles as the most a light child gets on a full charge, and expect less for a heavier one.
Ride, brakes and build
Ride, brakes and build
It stops with an electronic brake, which cuts the motor and slows the wheel, plus a foot brake you press on the rear fender. There is no hand-lever mechanical brake, which the Segway C2 has. The 6.5-inch solid wheels cannot puncture, and the front and rear shocks take some of the sting out of them. The frame is aluminum and it folds. SIMATE does not publish the scooter's weight, and no water (IP) rating is stated, so keep it out of the rain.
Safety: UL 2272, recalls and helmets
Safety: UL 2272, recalls and helmets
The S5's listing states no UL 2272 certification. The only UL 2272 mentions on its Amazon page belong to ads for other kids' scooters. That is the reason we leave it out of our best electric scooters for kids picks, all of which at least claim UL 2272. If the claim matters to you, or your building or school asks for it, the Segway C2, the Gotrax GKS Mini and the Gyroor H40 state it. No CPSC recall found for SIMATE as of October 2026. The helmet is the safety feature that counts most: CPSC estimates 79,300 people went to US emergency rooms with e-scooter injuries in 2024. Our scooter safety guide covers helmets and charging.
How it compares
How it compares
- Segway Ninebot C2 ($179.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): our top kids' pick, from a maker that states UL 2272 and names TÜV Rheinland, with a hand-lever drum brake. The C2 Lite suits ages 6 to 10 and 110 lb; the C2 Pro goes to 132 lb.
- Gyroor H40 ($151.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): for ages 8 to 14 and up to 143 lb at 10 mph, with a UL 2272 claim.
- Gotrax GKS Mini ($119.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change): the slowest and lightest, 7.5 mph and 16.3 lb, for ages 6 to 12 and 120 lb, with a UL 2272 claim.
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
Buy the S5 for a child of 6 to 14 who is too big for the smallest kids' scooters, up to 154 lb, who will ride with you on paths and driveways, and if light-up wheels are part of the appeal. Skip it if you want a UL 2272 claim, a hand-lever mechanical brake, or a published battery size and weight; the Segway C2 has all three.
