Our verdict

8.0
/ 10

The Segway Ninebot C2 Lite ($179.99 as of Oct 22, 11:10 AM EDT, subject to change) is the C2 to buy for most children aged 6 to 10: Segway rates it for riders up to 110 lb and 4 ft 8 in, with a 9.9 mph top speed and a 56 Wh battery rated at 5.6 to 8.7 miles, and its listing says the motor waits for a 3 mph kick before it engages. The C2 Pro is the step up for ages 9 and up, to 132 lb and 12.4 mph, and it folds; the Lite does not. Use a helmet on every ride.

The numbers

Segway Ninebot C2 Kids' Electric Scooter is a kids' electric scooter for riders aged 6 to 10 that scores 8.0/10 on our editorial rubric, last verified on October 19, 2026. Amazon listed it at $180 as of October 22, 2026. Prices change often, so treat that as a snapshot. On Amazon it currently ranks #24 Best Seller in Electric Scooters. It pairs a 120 W motor (130 W peak) and a 56 Wh battery, rated for a claimed range of up to 8.7 miles and a top speed of 9.9 mph. The scooter weighs 17.2 lb and is rated for riders up to 110 lb. It rides on 7-inch solid tires, with a rear drum brake on a hand lever. The seller states UL 2272 certification (on the Amazon listing or the maker's own site); we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. Follow the maker's age and weight limits and use a helmet every ride. It best suits children aged 6 to 10 and under 110 lb (C2 Lite).

Pros

  • + Segway publishes age, height and weight limits and the test conditions behind its range figures
  • + Kick-to-start throttle and three speed modes on the Lite and the Pro
  • + 7-inch solid tires on the Lite: nothing to puncture or pump
  • + Light at 17.2 lb (Lite)
  • + A clear step up: the C2 Pro carries 132 lb, reaches 12.4 mph and folds

Cons

  • - The C2 Lite does not fold and has no bell or rear brake light
  • - Small 56 Wh battery on the Lite: about 70 minutes of riding
  • - Rear brake only on the Lite and the Pro
  • - Amazon's age and height figures disagree with Segway's

Who is this for?

  • Children aged 6 to 10 and under 110 lb (C2 Lite)
  • Kids 9 and up, to 132 lb, who need a scooter that folds (C2 Pro)
  • Parents who want maker-stated limits over listing guesses

What the C2 family is, and what the listings get wrong

Segway sells three kids' scooters in one Amazon listing family, which was #6 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on October 18, 2026: the C2 Lite, the C2 Pro (model 051404U) and the C2 Go. They are different scooters with different motors, batteries and age ranges, so check which one an option is before you buy. Amazon gives the C2 Pro a maximum age of 13; Segway's C2 Pro page says 9 and up with no upper age, limited instead by height and weight. The C2 Lite's Amazon bullet prints the rider height with 77 and 76 in the inches place, which cannot be right; Segway's C2 Lite page says 3 ft 8 in to 4 ft 8 in. The Lite charges in 5.5 hours on Segway's page and in 5 in an Amazon bullet. Both Amazon titles add UL 2271, which Segway's pages do not claim.

Which C2 fits which child

C2 Lite C2 Pro C2 Go (listing only)
Ages 6 to 10 9 and up (Amazon: up to 13) 6 to 10
Rider height 3 ft 8 in to 4 ft 8 in 3 ft 8 in to 5 ft 6 in unconfirmed
Max rider weight 110 lb 132 lb unconfirmed
Top speed 9.9 mph 12.4 mph 10 mph
Battery 56 Wh 108 Wh unconfirmed
Scooter weight 17.2 lb 23.6 lb 16.5 lb
Folds no yes unconfirmed
Brake rear drum, hand lever rear drum, hand lever rear step brake

Match the scooter to height and weight first, since those are the limits it is built around. A child of 6 to 10 under 110 lb and 4 ft 8 in fits the C2 Lite. A child of 9 or older, or one who has outgrown the Lite's limits, fits the C2 Pro, up to 132 lb and 5 ft 6 in; its handlebar sets at 34.8, 37.8 or 40.7 inches, so it grows with the rider. The C2 Go's listing gives the Lite's age range. Segway's own page for the Go was not part of our spec check, so every Go figure here is the Amazon listing's, and its bullet points give no rider weight limit.

Speed, modes and where kids can ride

The C2 Lite has three modes, Standard, Sport and Power-Assist, with 7.5 mph in Standard and 9.9 mph in Sport on Segway's figures. Its listing says the throttle engages only after the child kicks the scooter up to 3 mph, which stops it lurching off from a standstill, and the C2 Pro listing says the same. The Pro reaches 12.4 mph across its three modes. The Go's listing claims 10 mph and switches modes with a double tap of the power button. Start a new rider on the slowest mode. We treat every kids' electric scooter as something to ride with an adult nearby, on paths, driveways and quiet spaces away from traffic. Read Segway's manual and safety instructions before the first ride, and check your town's rules on where powered scooters may go.

Battery and real range

Segway rates the C2 Lite's 56 Wh battery at 5.6 miles in Sport at 9.9 mph and 8.7 miles in Standard at 7.5 mph, tested with a full battery and a 66 lb (30 kg) rider at about 77°F, and at about 70 minutes of riding in Standard. The C2 Pro's 108 Wh battery (21.6 V and 5 Ah; Segway's table swaps the two labels) is rated at 9.3 miles with a 132 lb load at 70% of top speed, and about 64 minutes of riding. The Go's listing claims 9 miles in Standard and 5.5 in Sport. Our usual estimate does not fit kids' scooters: it divides watt-hours by 22 to 27 per mile, a band measured with adults of 175 to 180 lb at full speed. On the Lite that band does not fit, because it assumes a rider far heavier than the scooter allows, so Segway's child-load figures are the better guide. The Lite charges in about 5.5 hours, the Pro in about 4.

Ride, brakes and build

The C2 Lite rides on 7-inch solid tires front and rear, so there is nothing to puncture or pump, and it has no suspension. It stops with a rear drum brake on a hand lever; Segway lists no front brake. It is rated IPX4 for splashing water and climbs a 5% grade. At 17.2 lb it is easy to lift into a car, but it does not fold, and Segway lists no bell and no rear brake light; ambient lights glow under the deck. The C2 Pro adds one-step folding, 7-inch hollow airless tires that Segway calls shock-absorbing, a Bluetooth speaker and RGB lights that follow the music or the speed, at 23.6 lb on Segway's spec table (23.1 lb in its feature copy). The Go's listing claims 7-inch tires, a rear step brake you press with a foot and a 16.5 lb weight.

Safety: UL 2272, recalls and helmets

Segway states its scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory. The C2 Lite and C2 Pro pages both carry that statement. The C2 Go's listing states UL 2272 and UL 2271; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory either. UL 2272 is about electrical fire and shock safety; it does not cover crashes or brakes. No CPSC recall found for the Segway Ninebot C2 Lite, C2 Pro or C2 Go as of October 2026, and Segway's 2025 recall of about 220,000 Max G30P and G30LP adult scooters, over their folding mechanism, does not cover the C2 family. The helmet is the safety feature that counts most: CPSC estimates 79,300 people went to US emergency rooms with e-scooter injuries in 2024, and only 18% of injured riders in CPSC's data were wearing a helmet. Our scooter safety guide covers helmets and charging.

How it compares

  • Gotrax GKS Mini: a gentler kids' scooter for ages 6 to 12 by its listing, with a 150 W motor, a 7.5 mph top speed, a 3.75-mile claimed range, 6-inch solid tires and an electronic brake plus a rear foot brake, at 16.3 lb with a 120 lb limit. The model is not on Gotrax's own site, so every figure is the listing's, and the listing gives no battery size and names no UL test lab.
  • SIMATE S5: for bigger kids, ages 6 to 14 and up to 154 lb by its listing, at 8.7 mph from a 130 W motor that starts only after a 2 mph kick. Its listing states no UL 2272, and it stops with an electronic brake and a foot brake, with no hand-lever brake like the C2's.
  • Hiboy Q2 Lite: a seated kids' scooter with a basket, for ages 5 to 8 by Hiboy (the listing says 4 to 10), with a 100 W motor, a 56.16 Wh battery about the size of the C2 Lite's, a 9 mph top speed with a 3 mph mode and a 110 lb limit, at 25.79 lb. It suits a younger child who would rather sit.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Buy the C2 Lite for a child of 6 to 10, between 3 ft 8 in and 4 ft 8 in and under 110 lb, who will ride paths and driveways for under an hour at a time. Buy the C2 Pro instead for a child of 9 or older, up to 132 lb and 5 ft 6 in, or if the scooter has to fold into a car trunk. Skip the C2 family for a child under 6; the seated Hiboy Q2 Lite starts at 5 by Hiboy's range. Skip it too for a rider over 132 lb, who has outgrown the C2 Lite and C2 Pro, or if you want long rides, since the Lite's battery is rated for about 70 minutes. Our kids' electric scooter guide compares the wider field by the makers' age limits.

Frequently asked questions

Which Segway C2 is right for my child?

Go by height and weight first. Segway rates the C2 Lite for ages 6 to 10, heights of 3 ft 8 in to 4 ft 8 in and riders up to 110 lb. The C2 Pro is for ages 9 and up, 3 ft 8 in to 5 ft 6 in and up to 132 lb; Amazon lists a maximum age of 13, which Segway does not. The C2 Go's listing says ages 6 to 10, like the Lite.

How fast does the Segway C2 go?

The C2 Lite reaches 9.9 mph in Sport and 7.5 mph in Standard, the C2 Pro 12.4 mph, and the C2 Go 10 mph by its listing. Each has three riding modes. The Lite and Pro listings say the motor engages only after a kick-off to about 3 mph, which keeps a standing scooter from shooting forward. Start every new rider on the slowest mode.

How long does the C2 battery last, and how long does it take to charge?

Segway rates the C2 Lite at about 70 minutes of riding, or 8.7 miles in Standard and 5.6 in Sport with a 66 lb child. The C2 Pro is rated at 9.3 miles and about 64 minutes with a 132 lb load. A full charge takes about 5.5 hours on the Lite and about 4 hours on the Pro. Cold weather and hills shorten every figure.

Does the Segway C2 fold?

The C2 Pro does, with one-step folding; the C2 Lite has no folding mechanism, per Segway's spec page. The Lite is light enough at 17.2 lb to lift into a car whole, and the Pro weighs 23.6 lb. The Go's listing bullets do not say whether it folds, so check the listing photos or ask the seller before you count on it.

Is the Segway C2 safe for kids?

On paper it has the features that matter for a young rider: speed modes, a kick-to-start throttle, a rear brake and an IPX4 rating. Segway states its scooters are tested to UL 2272 by TÜV Rheinland; we could not verify it in a certifier's directory. No CPSC recall found for the C2 family as of October 2026. The biggest factor is still the helmet: only 18% of injured riders in CPSC's data were wearing a helmet.

Can kids ride the C2 in the rain?

Light splashes only. The C2 Lite and C2 Pro are rated IPX4, which covers splashing water, so a damp path is within the rating while puddles and downpours are beyond it. Wet paths also make a small scooter harder to stop, so dry days are the better time for young riders. The Go's listing bullets give no water rating.

Segway C2 Lite or Gotrax GKS Mini?

Choose the C2 Lite for a maker spec sheet, a 56 Wh battery rated at 5.6 to 8.7 miles, a 9.9 mph top speed and Segway's stated UL 2272 testing. Choose the GKS Mini for a slower 7.5 mph top speed and a wider age range of 6 to 12, with riders up to 120 lb; its listing gives no battery size, and the model is not on Gotrax's own site.
