The 30-second verdict

Most budget e-bike listings buy their headline numbers by leaving something out. This one does not, and that is the reason to buy it. 500 W rated (with a 1000 W peak), 20 mph, UL 2271 and UL 2849 both certified by SGS, and a 25-30 mile range claim from a 374 Wh pack that the arithmetic supports. Every one of those figures is the number you actually want, disclosed the way you want it.

Why the rated figure is the important one

Almost every bike on our Amazon shelf quotes only a peak wattage, 1000 W, 1500 W, 2500 W. Peak is a marketing number: it is what the motor draws for a few seconds on a hill. The US federal definition of a low-speed electric bicycle is written around a 750 W rated figure, and a listing that never states one leaves you unable to demonstrate compliance even when the hardware would pass.

Funhang states 500 W rated. That is comfortably inside the federal cap, and combined with a 20 mph limit it makes this an unambiguous Class 2 e-bike, legal in all 50 states including the seven where Class 3 is banned outright. There is no settings change to make and no grey area to explain. Among the thirty best sellers we reviewed in this batch, it is the only one where that sentence is true without qualification.

The range claim is credible, which is rarer than it should be

374 Wh delivering 25-30 miles in pure electric mode works out to roughly 13 Wh per mile, which is at the optimistic end of achievable but not outside it, and pure electric is the harshest mode, so pedalling will beat it. Compare that with the bikes we had to correct in this same batch: the VOLTVOGUE City 26 claims 45 miles from 250 Wh (5.5 Wh/mi, impossible) and the RNNSNN Commuter 26 claims 80 from 540 Wh (6.75 Wh/mi, impossible). Funhang quoting a number you can plan around is a signal about the rest of the listing.

Riding it

7-speed gearing, an adjustable stem and seat so riders of different heights fit properly, five riding modes with five pedal-assist levels, an IPX5 waterproof removable battery, and 85% pre-assembly. The adjustable stem is worth more than it sounds on a shared household bike. Against that: it is a city cruiser on 26-inch wheels rather than a fat bike, so broken pavement is less comfortable than on the Funhang Fat 26, and no weight or payload figure is published.
