Riuiio Key Start Electric Scooter

Our verdict

6.6
/ 10

The Riuiio key-start scooter is a non-folding 350 W, 19 mph scooter for adults and teens who ride short, flat trips and park it at ground level. It was #9 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on November 1, 2026, and cost $139.98 at our last check. Its listing states a 288.6 Wh battery, which we estimate covers about 11 to 13 miles at full speed against the 21 it claims, a UL 2272 claim with no lab named, and a mechanical key in place of an app. Every figure is the listing's: we found no Riuiio website, and the listing does not name its brake types or describe any lights.

How we estimate range

For the Riuiio Key Start Electric Scooter: 289 Wh divided by 22 to 27 watt-hours per mile gives about 11 to 13 miles at full speed, for a rider of about 175 to 180 lb on city streets with stops and small hills. That band is the middle half of 32 full-speed range tests that eRideHero and RiderGuide published for 26 commuter scooters; we have not ridden the Riuiio Key Start Electric Scooter ourselves. Makers rate range for a 150 to 165 lb rider at about 9 to 10 mph on flat pavement, and in those full-speed tests scooters covered a median 59% of the advertised figure. Expect less in the cold, on steep hills or with a heavier rider, and more if you ride slower.

The numbers

Riuiio Key Start Electric Scooter is a electric scooter that scores 6.6/10 on our editorial rubric, last verified on November 1, 2026. Amazon lists it at $139.98 right now. On Amazon it currently ranks #9 Best Seller in Electric Scooters. It pairs a 350 W motor and a 289 Wh battery, rated for a claimed range of up to 21 miles and a top speed of 19 mph. We estimate about 11 to 13 miles a charge for a 175 to 180 lb rider at full speed, because advertised ranges are measured with lighter riders at lower speeds. Its 19 mph top speed as shipped is above California's 15 mph scooter limit, so California riders must hold it to 15. New Jersey's legal e-scooter must be under 19 mph, so it is not a legal e-scooter there. It is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. The scooter weighs 29 lb and is rated for riders up to 265 lb. It rides on 8.5-inch solid tires, with front and rear brakes of unstated type. The seller states UL 2272 certification (on the Amazon listing or the maker's own site); we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. It best suits riders who park at ground level and never need to fold a scooter.

Pros

  • + The listing states its 288.6 Wh battery outright (37 V x 7.8 Ah), about 11 to 13 miles at full speed by our estimate
  • + Starts with a mechanical key: no app or Bluetooth pairing to set up
  • + No folding latch to loosen or wear
  • + A 265 lb rider limit at 29 lb, per Amazon's item details
  • + A UL 2272 claim on the listing, which several budget best sellers lack
  • + Solid 8.5-inch tires cannot go flat

Cons

  • - Does not fold, despite "Portable" in the title: no car trunk, train or under-desk storage
  • - No Riuiio website: every figure is the listing's, and its UL 2272 claim names no lab
  • - Brake types, lights and speed modes are not described
  • - Suspension is unconfirmed: the item details list rear suspension, but no bullet describes one
  • - No water (IP) rating stated
  • - Amazon's item details reuse a model name from a different, folding Riuiio scooter

Who is this for?

  • Riders who park at ground level and never need to fold a scooter
  • Short, flat trips of up to about 5 miles each way
  • Riders up to 265 lb who would rather use a key than an app

What the Riuiio key-start scooter is

This is the Riuiio scooter that starts with a key and does not fold. Its Amazon listing was #9 in Amazon's Electric Scooters on November 1, 2026. We found no Riuiio website to check it against (riuiio.com is registered but serves no site), so every figure on this page is the listing's, and we say where the bullets and Amazon's item details disagree.

The model name is a muddle. When we read Amazon's item details on October 20, 2026, they gave this listing the model name G01Lite, but the same name appears on Riuiio's folding, app-controlled scooter, which lists an aluminum frame and 27.8 lb where this one lists iron and 29 lb. So the name does not tell you which scooter you are getting, and we use the feature that sets this one apart. Riuiio's listing family on Amazon also holds folding app models, seated models and a 500 W model with 10-inch tires; those are different scooters, and our buy button opens the key-start one. Its star rating is shared across that family, so we do not quote it.

Speed, power and where you can ride it

The listing gives a 350 W brushless motor without saying whether that is a rated or a peak figure, and a 19 mph top speed. It describes no speed modes, no app and no cruise control: you turn the key and ride. The climb claim is 15 degrees, which is about a 27% grade, steep for a 350 W motor, so treat it as a best case for a light rider and plan on gentle hills.

Its 19 mph top speed is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit (VTL §114-e) and above California's 15 mph limit for motorized scooters (Vehicle Code §22411). With no lower speed mode described, a California rider has to hold it to 15 mph with the throttle. New Jersey's legal e-scooter is under 19 mph, so this one sits on that line rather than under it. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the US e-bike classes do not apply. California also requires a driver's license or instruction permit (§21235), and Pennsylvania does not allow e-scooters on public roads.

Battery and real range

The listing gives the battery as 37 V and 7.8 Ah and states the result, 288.6 Wh, itself. The MAXSHOT V1 white option lists the same 37 V and 7.8 Ah, though MAXSHOT states no watt-hours and another of its options says 36 V. Riuiio claims up to 21 miles "under optimal conditions" without naming them, while the item details we read on October 20 gave a maximum of 15 miles. A full charge takes 5 hours by the item details.

We estimate about 11 to 13 miles at full speed for a 175 to 180 lb rider. That is 288.6 Wh divided by 22 to 27 Wh per mile, the middle half of 32 published full-speed range tests of commuter scooters. In those tests, scooters covered a median 59% of their advertised range, and makers that publish their conditions use 150 to 165 lb riders at about 9 to 10 mph. With no charger at the far end, plan on about 5 miles each way. Hills, cold weather and a heavier rider cut that further.

Ride, brakes and build

The frame does not fold. The listing presents that as a strength, "stable structural support without folding joints", and there is something in it: a folding latch is one more part that can loosen, and Segway's 2025 recall of about 220,000 Max G30P and G30LP scooters was for the folding mechanism. Nobody has published a test of this frame, though, so it is a design point and not proof of a sturdier scooter. The practical cost is real. Despite "Portable" in the title, it cannot fold down for a car trunk, a bus or train, or the space under a desk, and the item details give a 43-inch handle height. Plan on storing it upright at ground level.

The listing calls the brakes a "dual braking system", and the item details list front and rear braking, but neither names the types, so you cannot tell from the listing whether you get a disc, a drum or an electronic brake. The 8.5-inch tires are solid rubber per the item details, which means no flats and a firm ride. The item details also say "Rear Suspension", yet no bullet describes a shock, and a pricier Riuiio listing in the same family is the one sold as "with Suspension", so we treat suspension on this scooter as unconfirmed. The text describes no headlight or brake light, so add clip-on lights before riding at dusk. No water (IP) rating is stated, so keep it out of the rain.

It weighs 29 lb on an iron frame and carries riders up to 265 lb, both per the item details, which also list a 1-year limited warranty and describe the age range as teens. The key does one job: nothing powers the scooter on without it. It does not stop anyone carrying the scooter off, so you still need a lock. The listing says it arrives ready to ride with no complicated assembly.

Safety: UL 2272 and recalls

The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. The exact wording is "The electrical system is UL 2272 certified", and no test lab, file number or certificate is named. UL 2272 is the fire and electrical safety standard for scooters; it does not test frames, stems or brakes. New York City's Local Law 39 requires e-scooters sold, leased or rented in the city to be certified to it (since September 16, 2023), and California's SB 1271 bars the sale of motorized scooters whose battery was not tested to it (since January 1, 2026). If either applies to you, ask the seller for the certificate before you rely on the claim.

No CPSC recall found for Riuiio as of November 1, 2026 (CPSC recalls). Our electric scooter safety guide covers charging and the checks to make on any listing.

How it compares

  • MAXSHOT V1 ($149.99 at our last check): on paper the closest match, with the same 37 V, 7.8 Ah battery on its white option (another option says 36 V), 350 W, 19 mph, a 21-mile claim, a 265 lb limit and a UL 2272 claim with no lab named. It folds, it weighs 2 lb more at 31 lb, and its listing names the brakes (an electronic E-ABS brake plus a drum) and adds an app with three speed modes and cruise control. Like the Riuiio, every spec is the listing's.
  • VOLPAM Q1 ($159.98 at our last check): folds and is lighter, 26 lb by its listing, but its 187.2 Wh battery is about a third smaller (an estimated 7 to 9 miles) and its listing states no certification.
  • Hiboy S2 ($299.98 at our last check): the step up to a maker that publishes a manual and its range test conditions. Hiboy rates it 350 W (500 W peak) with a 280.8 Wh battery, rear shocks, a rear disc brake, IPX4 and UL 2272 and UL 2271 certificates. It weighs 35.5 lb and carries 220 lb, less than the Riuiio's 265.
  • Qlaway K078L ($174.99 at our last check): the same 288.6 Wh battery size with a seat on an 11-liter storage box, if you would rather sit.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Buy the Riuiio key-start scooter if your trips are short and flat, up to about 5 miles each way on smooth pavement, you weigh up to 265 lb, you park at ground level, and you would rather turn a key than pair an app. It carries about the same battery as the MAXSHOT V1 on a scooter that never needs unfolding.

Skip it if you need to fold a scooter into a car, onto a train or under a desk, if you ride after dark and do not want to add lights, or if you ride in the rain. Skip it too if you want a maker you can reach outside Amazon or brakes you can identify before you pay: the Hiboy S2 gives you both. Our best electric scooters under $200 guide sets it beside the other budget best sellers.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Riuiio key start scooter fold?

No. The listing describes a "solid non-folding frame", even though its title calls the scooter portable. That removes a folding latch that could loosen, but it also means the scooter cannot fold down for a car trunk, a bus or train, or the space under a desk. Amazon's item details give a 43-inch handle height and a weight of 29 lb, so plan on storing it upright at ground level.

How far does the Riuiio electric scooter go on a charge?

We estimate about 11 to 13 miles at full speed for a 175 to 180 lb rider. The listing claims up to 21 miles "under optimal conditions" without naming them, and Amazon's item details gave 15 miles when we read them on October 20, 2026. Our estimate divides the listing's 288.6 Wh battery by 22 to 27 Wh per mile, the middle half of 32 published full-speed range tests. With no charger at the far end, that is about 5 miles each way.

Is the Riuiio scooter UL 2272 certified?

The listing states UL 2272; we could not verify it in the certifier's directory. Its wording is "The electrical system is UL 2272 certified", and it names no test lab, file number or certificate. New York City requires UL 2272 certification for e-scooters sold there, and California has required UL 2272 battery testing for motorized scooters sold there since January 1, 2026. No CPSC recall found for Riuiio as of November 1, 2026.

How fast does the Riuiio scooter go?

19 mph, per the listing, which describes no lower speed modes. That is under New York's 20 mph e-scooter limit, at New Jersey's 19 mph line rather than under it, and above California's 15 mph limit for motorized scooters, so a California rider has to hold it to 15 mph with the throttle. Scooters are not e-bikes, so the e-bike classes do not apply.

Riuiio key start scooter or MAXSHOT V1: which should I buy?

The MAXSHOT V1 if you need to fold it or want speed modes, the Riuiio if you never fold a scooter and would rather use a key. On paper they share a 37 V, 7.8 Ah battery (the Riuiio states 288.6 Wh; one MAXSHOT option says 36 V instead), 350 W, 19 mph, a 265 lb limit and a UL 2272 claim with no lab named. The MAXSHOT folds, adds an app with three speed modes and names its brakes, at 31 lb against the Riuiio's 29. Both rely on their listings for every spec. At our last check the MAXSHOT cost $149.99 and the Riuiio $139.98.
